Anyone know why it was down? It doesn't look like anything has changed, and in his news it just says it's back.

Because he is a complete moron. It is evident just by the stuff on his site he lacks any knowledge about Windows.

IMO he doesn't know anything. I'm sure there are lots of people here that could make a much better Windows tweaking guide then him. But the fact is, they don't.

He's not a complete bleepin' moron, because I had tested his service disable tweaks and only gotten an error for one service, that's a known issue.

Because one of the Windows components is always looking for one service that was included in the list of services suggested to be disabled, which is the Server service. If you disable the Server service, Windows won't crash or be majorly crippled, but you always are going to get the following error message in the event log during every boot up:

Type: Error

Source:Perfnet

Unable to open the Server service. (etc.)

The only way to get rid of the above mentioned error message in the event log during every boot up and thus accumulating, just re-enable the Server service.

There is a long thread on the [H] about the services advice he gives on blackviper.com http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=878887

Mostly it is just a huge fight over whether disabling certain services will actually gain you any performance. As long as you understand that you can mess up your system and take the precautions of learning about each service you are changing you should be OK.

I've never disabled the server service, but I've disabled a lot of the others. Less processes means Windows requiring less memory and faster boot/logon times. My logon times are near instantaneous, and I make service tweaking, at least to a limitied extent, a common practice on systems I work on.

They help on older machines and servers. It worked on my 233mhz 80mb EDO ram file server and my 933mhz cs server. It wont make much difference in our machines since most of as already have 20x better than the reccommended to run windows XP. Flame me if i am wrong.
