whether to push the limit of a 3000+ venice

What is up with the way everybody is trying to get their overclock as far as it can go? I just got this new system and I am so impressed with it. Venice core is amazing. I can deffinately raise my overclock a lot higher if I don't care about running a lot of volts through my cpu. I just don't get what the advantage of this is going to be. My hard drives seem to be the bottleneck in almost every case. If I want higher benchmarks or the ability to encode faster it would make some difference. Should I be running with 1.7 volts and a 2.8 core clock if I can? I'm not really afraid of burning out this cheap 3000+ venice. I can always get another and I eventually want an X2 or an FX chip.

if you are content with your setup, keep it where it's at. people just like pushing their systems. it's like car tuning and whatnot.

yeah, you won't hurt anything...you'll just hit a wall, and be able to sleep at night knowing has fast your processor is

You got a good chip, my 3000 Venice needs 1.65 to do 2.52GHZ, but I have real memory comming in early next week, 1GB 3200 Redline If you are happy, and your temps are near 50-55C full load, keep it there and work on getting the noise down.

i'm surprised you can't push that RAM any higher. my crucials hit 280mhz and still have room to work..i'm just chillin' them right now..i should be able to squeeze 300mhz out of them making them DDR600's This is key when you are doing encoding, as the faster your RAM is, the faster the encode. I'm assuming you have the SATA II hdd's? Well you should invest in a 16mb buffered SATA II. This will give you a better advantage and reduce that bottleneck. Get your RAM speed up as much as you can and try to stablize that venice around 2.7Ghz and you should be good to go.

Pretty sure I reached the ram's limit. I've tried a lot of different stuff and it errors at 270 everytime. I still need to try setting all the timings manually, trying the yellow slots, and trying some different bioses, and every combonation of those variables. But as the title of this post says I'm debating whether spending that much time is worth it when I have such a fast stable setup already. I really do want it to go faster though.

I had to boost my vcore once more from 1.55 to 1.6 to keep the clocks where they were as I started getting errors in prime and spi.

if you mean case temps the pwm sensor gets up to ~52 after priming for several hours, the room I'm in is like 80 deg. F which isn't too helpful I think this thing will run much better come winter time.

i cant wait for winter either... my main rig folds downstairs and underload is around 48c... come winter, it goes upstairs, where cold air is piped thru from the secondary dryer vent duct (dunno where there are 2, i put a homemade cotton wrapped in cheesecloth filters) and runs into my case... with 40f air piped in, i cant wait to see how far i can push my system...
