I have a cousin who want me to upgrade his comp. He has a HP :(. I read the specs of the motherboard and it says it allows up to 2.2ghz pentium 4 northwood/williamette 400/533 socket 478 Maximum Processor Core Frequency. Will it work with a 2.53 pentium 4 northwood? Will it boot up 2.2? or not boot up at all?

I know you said it supports 533 bus too, but socket 478 up to 2.2 were all 400 bus. Run CPU-Z and see what chipset the motherboard has which might give us a clue as to whether the 533 bus processors will work. If the mobo truly supports 533, then a 2.53 will work. If there is any doubt, you might want to find a 400 bus Northwood like the 2.4 or something like that.
