Well it's time... This will be my official thread for OCing results on my new rig as described in my SIG.

Running Windows XP Pro
Software available:
Prime95 / SP2004
Sandra 2005 lite
SuperPI
WinRAR
SpeedFan
CPUZ
Memtest86+ v3.2

*I'll be running 2 instances of each program required to get 100% CPU*

First OC checkpoint:
Load Optimized Defaults

I didn't run all tests at stock settings, but I will as I go over 225HTT.

Each checkpoint indicates only the settings that I changed in BIOS. (Assume all other settings from the previous checkpoint are the same)

u must be aware u have to run 2 super pi's at the same time.. as well as 2 primes and so on to truely test both cores

* UPDATE * PROBLEM *

When I run 2x Prime95 Torture Blend tests it only uses 50% CPU. If I run PrimeNet test on 1 and Torture Blend Test on the other I get 100% CPU. Any explanation/solution to this?

*EDIT* Prime95's failed after a few minutes with rounding error. Started SuperPI 32M again and got a rounding error this time where last time at these settings it passed... I'm going to the other previous checkpoint and try again... Need some help now... *EDIT*

Try using SP2004 instead, which is Prime95 with a better interface and options. Then you can set cpu affinity and get 100% usage out of any type of test you select.
 
Well I tried that and it only uses 50% as well even when i run it 2x. If I used blend test in both instances it doesn't use 100%. I have to select RAM test in 1 and CPU test in the other. Both select CPU0, no affinity CHKED and priority 10.

Should I use something different?
 
Dont run two blends at once. Besides, blend mostly tests ram. For pure CPU overclocking run the small test or custom ones set within the bounds of your L2 cache. Thats what ive found to show instability the quickest. Usually when mines just a bit instable it can run blend for ages before it makes an error but will error on the small within 3 or 4 minutes.
For memory testing use superpi32m or memtest. I usually just play WOW though. That really tests the memory lol.
 
I was letting it run 1 CPU test and 1 RAM test with two instances for about 4 hours....while i was in class...when i returned home, the monitor was in standby mode but the comp was still powered up and frozen. The keyboard buttons were froze, so i had to shutdown...I don't know what happened! So, What happened?? Anybody know? By the way, I'm at 215HTT@ 1.4vcore RAM 1:[email protected] settings auto and 3-3-3-8-1T-12-256
So I'm running it again right now to see if I get an error.

*EDIT* My temps running these things is only 44.5C MAX *EDIT*

maybe the first one is hogging the memory it needs and the 2nd one doesnt have as much memory to use?

WinRAR Bench: 653mb/s

CPU: 2.7Ghz (This is the absolute max I can get out of my x2 4800+) I tried every combination lowering RAM to get more CPU and nothing worked. Not even 2707mhz...2700mhz is perfect though.

RAM can hit 275mhz stable but is chillin at 270mhz. I will attempt to get my RAM timings tighter at this speed and will post any successes with that. For now 3-3-3-8-1T is my current stable speed.

SpeedFan Temps 35C Idle / 57C MaxL (depending on ambient)


If there are any last words or suggestions on how to get my CPU to do more than 2.7Ghz please feel free. I'm not going with any different setup that what I have right here. Thanks for your time...I'm out!

LOL, I'm only a few MHz slower than you, and I saved $400!
 
well, you don't have 270 htt, or 2mb L2, or respect enough to give congrats to a nice oc, rather, you flamed, good job

Actually, I do have 2MB L2 (Why do you think 3800+ and 4400+ are the most wanted? Because 3800 is the lowest 1MB L2 and the 4400+ is the lowest 2MB L2), and 30MHz extra HTT isn't going to help much.

At least I'm not still on a 2500 Barton!!
