DVD-ROM drive can't read DVDs anymore

My DVD-ROM drive can't read DVDs anymore, but it can still read CDs. Does anybody have any idea what could possibly cause this? It happens in both Windows and Linux, so I don't think it's a software problem, but I'm not 100% on that .

Cleaning disc?

What do you mean by "cleaning disc"? Do you mean "is it a cleaning disc"? Or do you mean "have you tried a cleaning disc"? In either case the answer is no. I don't even have a cleaning disc.

Sorry - I meant have you tried a cleaning disc.

I'd try that first - but then again nowadays a new DVD-ROM is nearly as cheap as the cleaning discs.
