Unhappy Installing RAM need help :\

First off, everytime I do a search for my problem i get results for the
A7V8X-X motherboard, meanwhile i have the A7V8X.

OK so anyways, my problem...
I am trying to upgrade my computer to 1 gig of ram. I have 512 Elixir
pc2700 DDR-SDRAM.
The rest of the specs of the memory came from CPU-Z
Frequence: ~166.6 mhz
Timings: 2.5-3-3-7

Ok so basically i am trying to upgrade and i bought ram once before
from best buy called K-Byte, the guy told me it is what i am looking
for and I wasn't too sure. When i tried installing it, i was getting an
unstable system, where applications failed and system rebooted.

Then I sold that RAM to the pc-show that is in New Jersey.
Now recently I tried to give it another crack, and I bought from newegg,
and I even tried to match the timings:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146217

After putting it in, I was getting same thing, where applications were
failing.
I bought this ram b/c in the reviews in that link someone had the same motherboard and he said he switched the old RAM to the second slot and the new ram to the 1st slot. So then i tried this, and it was running smooth, until it started to reboot automatically, i guess it was some sorta WPE that shut it down idk. So then i tried just running the RAM by itself, and still the same problems, then i ran MEMTEST and it was giving me errors. (with and without the original RAM [Elixir])

So now i am confused on what to do, I guess I could have replaced it,
but I just didn't want to try and waste my time. I have searched the
groups and the google-web and nothing really came up about it.

If anyone has any suggestions on RAM i need or what I should do, or
anything, please help me out... Thank you in advance for any help :]
PC SPECS (that i think you might want to know:
AMD Athlon XP Thoroughbred Socket A @ ~2.08ghz
ASUS A7V8X VIA KT400 chipset

ALSO I have already tried to flash the BIOS, exchanged slots, or just tried the new ram by itself in the pc. I also upped the voltage and lowered it and still same thing.

I already returned that RAM to newegg as i had too b/c of the warranty.

So now I am looking to get this RAM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145059
But i am worried it will give me the same problems :\... idk what else to do.

If anyone can help me or tell me what else I can try to do, it would be very much appreciated.

try 2.3.3.11 or 2.5,3,3,11 for mem timings drop your muilt, on your chip and run memtest on the ram. you might be trying to get to hi of an overclock and your cpu dont like it. the ram might be fine just lower the stats on the cpu and test. and or your mobo is just messed up

Try your ram at spec. and your mobo on safe/fail (default). if still rebooting frequently, it might be your mobo's bad cap's (capacitors). check them to see if any unusual looking caps or any of the smell funny.

well i haven't overclocked anything (i know this isn't the right place) but usually overclockers would know just basic problems so thats why i came here....

but yea, there is no overclocking involved. But I think it could be the idea of a bad CAP only b/c my pc did have a bit of a burn earlier this year with a PSU, b/c i did something really stupid and it zapped my entire computer and the Video Card and RAM Needed to be replaced due to burn holes...
but that doesn't explain why the RAM that is in there now works and new ram doesn't :\.
Any other idea's... does anyone think the crucial RAM i linked in my first post, would be a good idea to buy?
thanks for the idea though guys... next time i might just try the ram on a friend's pc

I would think you should check your PSU using methods in here. Whatever caused the "burn" issue may have taken out more than your video mem.
A close look at caps as ochungry said wouldn't hurt.
You may have also fubar'd your BIOS, perhaps a flash to the latest BIOS and a win reinstall is in order. At least a BIOS jumper reset.
Good Luck,
Killa

Ok Ill try giving it a shot looking at the caps... umm i did flash the bios and reinstalled windows just two days ago (idk if order matters, but i reformatted then flashed the bios)
Explain bios jumper reset? Where is the jumper on the board? and i am assumign its like resetting the CMOS... just shut down the cpu, remove the jumper for a few seconds and put it back?

*EDIT*
And i replaced the PSU too, so thats not the same either :\

You would need to shut system off, remove jumper, place on pins 2 and 3 for 5+ sec, then back to pins 1 and 2. Or are there only 2 pins on CMOS reset on tour board?
Have you set mem settings to by SPD in BIOS?

your other mem, is working just fine right? but it was PC2700. and now your trying to run the PC3200. so if your old mem is working fine your going from 333fsb to 400fsb. it should not really be prob, it could be i guess. try runing that PC3200 at 166fsb(pc2700 speeds) and see if you get any errors. what are your temps like? what are your volts like? what kinna drivers you got install? if not just wait and trying it and a buddyz comp and see whats up.
