Sempron 2800 64 OC expectations.

I'm concidering getting a Sempron 64 2800+ to go along with a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136162 DFI Infinity, and some http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ubmit=Property PC4800 Patriot ram. For a budget that should give quite a bit of overclocking potential right? My question is how far do you think I could push it? I'm thinking that a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106061 would be my best choice as I like a quiet computer but it looks like it will cool very nicely. Do you think I can get 2.8GHz out of this? Let me know what you think, thanks.

You could probably do at least 2.5-2.6 stable. I have the 3000+, which is stock 1.8GHz and 128KB L2, and I am running 2.75 stable on an nforce3 board with the TT Big Typhoon. I've done a suicide shot at 2.955GHz.

It really depends on your conditions. On default voltage this chip pushes a little over 2.2ghz

I guess it all depends, people on Newegg are saying 2.4 and above with stock voltage, but at 1.4 there's a good bit of head room. Do you think PC4800 is necessary?

When you get your system and OC you will see how far will it go . I think that without any problems you should hit 2200MHz.

True enough So would you say I would need PC4800 for a max out OC or would PC4500 or whatever do?

PC4800 works on 300MHz(600 DDR). If you take pc4800 you will be able to set HTT at 300MHz at CPU/MEM = 1/1 .
Many people who have venice are getting stabile OC from 2500 to 2800 MHz so PC4800 would be my choice (of corse if PC4800 isn't more expencive then PC4500)

Thanks man, yeah it does sound excellent, however it's about $20 more than PC4400 and the latency is a bit higher. Since I want a gig natually I may very well save a bit of money and get PC4400 from Geil, I could always OC the ram anyway.

You should expect a pretty high overclock with the 2800+. Mine runs at 2.8 stable, but I am forced to run at 2.6 because of my ram. Check out this thread, started by electrorcamd, for more info:

I am going to make 2 orders. I plan on getting the 2800+ with the dfi 250gb then next pay check or so the xp-90 and a 1gig of 3200 mabey ocz platnium el rev 2. I only have 768mb of pc2700 right now so should i be able to hit 2.2ghz ok on stock voltage and heat sink? Also will it be a pain to switch from stock hs to the xp-90? thz

You are guaranteed more than 2200Mhz. With stock settings I think it will get 2.3 or maybe a little more. My 2800+ did only 2.5Ghz, but then when I sold it to someone on these forums they got it to 2.7 using the same motherboard and the stock cooler.

Even 2.0GHz is pretty nice when you think about it, that would give you similar performance to an Althon 3000+ for half the cost.
Thanks for that thread too, great OC's right there, can't belive you can get over a 1.2Ghz oc form a $75 chip!

I wish I could still do that, but something is screwed up now. I think my motherboard may be dying. When I try to raise the htt over 300mhz, it locks up during boot and displays a screen saying something about nvidia ide raid bios. So, for now, I am stuck at "only" 2.4. Good luck with your chip, though.
