Changing Software of graphics cards to new model

Its been like 3 yeats since I have changed graphics cards and i forget how to change them. I know how to physically, but software wise...what do you do.
Im upgrading from a fx5200 to a 7800 gt....SOOOOOO giddy right now...lol

How do you delete the old software?

I would remove old driver using "Remove programs" by way of the control panel, reboot into safe mode and use driver cleaner pro to remove all traces of old driver, reboot again with new card installed and install driver of your choice.

EDIT: Just read godman's post below. He explained what I said in better step by step instructions.

First thing's first: download the newest geforce driver at www.nvidia.com, and then google search "driver cleaner download" and download that program.

Now, I will tell you the process, but Driver Cleaner has a readme that will tell you also.

Here it is:
1. Install Driver Cleaner, but don't run the program just yet.
2. Uninstall old nvidia drivers in add/remove control panel.
3. Reboot computer and hit F8 after POST screen until you get to the safe-mode screen. Select "Safe Mode" and boot to WinXP that way. When you get into windows DO NOT hit the next button when it says "found new hardware." Cancel it over and over until it goes away.
4. Run Driver Cleaner (I think it's called 'Driver Cleaner 3' now) exactly how the readme file tells you. You may have to clean your cab before doing so.
5. Reboot the computer to regular mode and again DO NOT hit next when it says "found new hardware." Cancel them all.
6. Install new video driver (I already told you to have it downloaded)
7. Reboot and wallah!

That's it!

hehe, what i did was, install new drivers, take out old, put in new, boot up, done, nvidia will auto detect a card change and will install drivers for new card in place of old
