81.85 help please

Ive had my MSI 6600gt for 6 months or so now and it ran rock solid for 5 of those months.

Few weeks ago i bought UT 2k4 and ran it and had some artifacting so i decided to update my old drivers to the 8185's and everything seemed fine.

So i get an urge to play a little Warcraft3 when i load it up its slow and lines all over the place, i decide to see how game play goes and it goes bad. Not feeling to good about it i shut it down and decided to watch a movie...another problem.

When WMP or Divx tried to load the computer would lock up, i would hear a single system beep then i would regain control of my cursor, shortly followed by a reboot.

So i decided to try another driver....some one had recommended that he switched to the 71.xx drivers and so i downloaded then cleaned up the 81.85's and tried again. This time movies would play with no sound and my games looked like crap. i couldnt bump my refresh rate over 60mhz either.

Im thinking its a driver problem, i had no other problems with this card before i switched to the 81.85's and for the life of me i cant remember the old drivers i had installed. The card is slightly OC'd now to 948/530, coollbits puts it at 1002/568 and i dont think that the problem is with the OC or heat (card feels slightly warm to touch). I tried both at stock speeds with the same problem.

case temps are reading 24c/sys 41c/cpu on an oc'd m2600 and the rest of the rig specs are in the sig

thanks for your time

Maybe a hardware problem since you tried two different drivers and at stock and gave you the same problem. Your PSU should be able to handle your card, but you might want to check your rails to be sure. Can you test your graphics card in another computer?

I.m having weird things happening since putting on the 81.85 drivers. Windows explorer lock up for a few moments while looking around in folders, very slow boot, video capture does not work unless I go to device manager and disable WDM and then re-enable them, ect. Never had problems like this before and the only thing that changed was going from 77.77 to 81.85. Take a look at the Forceware drivers section at nZone. Many people having strange occurances since putting on these haunted drivers.

Well if you have the time, you can always try to reinstall Windows to make sure you absolutely cleaned up anything left over from the 81.85 drivers.

theres' another problem right now my backup rig is in storage. i just moved and i have nothing to test/backup what i have on this drive now.

well some good new i got war3 to run good, i had to turn down the settings all to medium and it runs w/o a hitch...which makes me think its a heat issue...but unreal still runs fine on close to max settings w/o a problem with OC'd settings which leads me back to a driver problem. hmm
