Using an OEM XP home CD with a dell XP product key?

I'm thinking of getting a dell laptop and it'll come with XP home...but it's got all that dell crap on it. I want to completely whipeout the HDD and do my own install with an OEM XP disk and then use the XP home product key they give me....is this doable?

Yes ajrettke, should be no problem. If you run into activation issues, just call MS and explain you needed to reinstall the software.

I have done this with a HP desktop, I had to speak with a live person but that was about it.

As long as they are the exact same version of XP. ie They must both be home, or both be pro, etc. Not sure if the service pack level matters or not.

service pack makes no diff at all.
