Telephony problem

I'm using ATT World net and I don't always get 53k, so everytime i connect and hear the modem making sound for too long, i know i will get somethign like 28k or even worse, 14k. Sometimes I have to try like 7-10 times to get 50k or more.

here is the problem, sometimes I cancel the connection and reconnect, it said my my modem, telephony, network bla bla bla got error or somethign like that. I tried to restart 'telephony' in 'manage' but couldn't cuz it say 'telephony' doesn't reply in a timely manner...... have to restart to get in work again.

I hope someone know how to fix this, or maybe know why...thanks

i have seen a like prob on a 2 phone system (1 for comp-1 for family use) and the optionally purchased call answer/forwarding was routing the dial tone around after a set amount of rings without answer, so whenever slow modem shake, got routed and no connect, and secondary montering caused slow connect --it was worked around by calling the automated service and disabling that feature for that comp use phone----could have nothing to do with your sit but

also u could open up a term win and watch and see where the prob is, try a script to connect with instead of the default
