help with 10gb windows partition size!!

i have a raid 160gb total, i partitioned off 10gb for windows

currently it says that i only have 55mb left.... when i go into explorer and look at each folder on this partition, the total space adds up to about 4.5 gb... so where did the remaining 5.5 gb go!!?!?!!

why doesnt it see that there should be over 5gb of space left ?

how can i reclaim this space ?

i need some help as my computer is running really slow now without having any space

Try doing a disk cleanup on it (drive C:\), and deleting any system restore points

to the Forum.
Two things come to mind. First, where is your swap file located? Second, clean out your system restore file.

yea, my swap file is on the other partition

ive ran disk cleanup multiple times including ccleaner hdcleaner and like 3 more 'cleaners' trying to free up space

restore is off, and all previous saves are gone...

it hsould only total up to like 4gb.. i dont understand how its full!

Have you checked for viruses and spyware? Also, have you changed your folder options to "show hidden files" to allow you to view everything ti the C drive"?

Run "chkdsk /f" from the command prompt, this will require a restart to complete, but may resolve your issue. chkdsk can repair issues with windows reporting the incorrect amount of free space.

Also, at the root of C go to tools>folder options then go to the view tab and select show hidden files and folders, then deselect hide protected OS files. This will allow you to see any files at the root of C which could also be taking up space but you aren't seeing.

ran checkdisk.. did not help

have run/ran kaspersky antivirus, microsoft antispyware, spybot search n destroy and did not help

any more ideas.. im sure lost at this point

ok, ive downloaded and used disktective which basically makes a pie chart of your hard drive

it shows that my free space has

048 990 814 208 bytes

can this be correct, doesn that mean there are 48gb's free?

i went into the partition and selected all, and then went to properties

size 2.96gb

size on disk 2.68gb

well one time one of my other comps got some bug in it

something used it to store/distribute some zip files in limewire(probably a virus since they were all the same)

i wold recommend looking at the propertys of all your folders(like is program files is 8 gigs you shold look for junk there)and see if you can find the prob

also i whold also recommend useing winrar to search thrue the folders(it shows hiddin folders)

sry if it has ben answered allready i didn't thoroughly look thrue the replys

Why do you even bother putting everything in seperate partitions? You only decrease performance by seperating the OS, pagefile and applications by increasing your average seeking distance.

Be a little patient. rd900 is one of the best at diagnosing MS problems.

?? seems to make sense to me. As long as you keep an exact page file size AFTER defragmenting, performance is fine. If you use a page file range, it gets fragmented. No problems with using an exact size like 1 or 2GB.

i use 1.5gb....

should i change that to 1 or 2, or is the 1.5 ok?
