will a opteron 939 chip go in any socket 939 board.. or will some boards not take the chip ?

Usually a BIOS update is required I believe.

Need to check the mobo manufactures web site to be sure.

The 939 opties will fit in any 939 motherboard, but whether they work or not is up the ther board. A lot, if not most, of the 939 mobos seem to support it fine but there really is no guarantee.

Mine fit in my DFI just fine and I didn't even have to update the BIOS.

You should only have to update the BIOS if it is a dual core but that would apply to X2's as well. Otherwise they are basically the same chips with the Opty's having better quality.

not all motherboards support dualcores...regardless of BIOS updates. so be sure to look for it.
