2005 in review

As this year is coming to an end. I was wondering what are the best or worst products or concepts for this year of 2005?

Not limited to scope of a concept, product or theory/statement.

Reminder: No breaking the forum rules here, so remember political-religous comments need to comply. No flaming if you don't agree.

My question is:

Overall in all of 2005, what should have the top ranks to YOU as a great pick or advancement for 2005?

What was the flop if you would rather talk about that.

Product/links to it or to the article and of course why you are picking it. If there is no viable source. Please state additional laymans terms why you believe it is a great pick or flop.

Ok ocforums.com, what blew your hair back or you felt was the biggest dud, in 2005???

Well, Microsoft should win the “tickle me Elmo” award for creating an artificial demand for a product that sucks. Basically for the well timed release of the Xbox 360 and only shipping them on lots of 10 at a time so that every store runs out of the product twice a day (thus making people think that they are being snapped up far faster than they really are).

Congress should do an investigation to determine the reality of the so-called shortage. If it is determined that they are in fact producing them as fast as they can sell the things, then there should be a new law that forces them to refund everyone about $100.00 as a punitive measure.

I must say Xbox360!

I never had so much fun while gaming. Geometry Wars has to be one of the best games ever made, I can't stop playing it (it's an arcade game that you can dl on 360).

Beside that Dual Cores, X2's to be more specific. I love my Toledo and it's by far the best proc that I have ever used and with the support from new drivers it gives awesome performance in games. I was also hoping to see AGIEA hit the market by end of the year but it seems that dual cores will replace it in multithreaded games.

I was going to say SLI but then i realized that it was out a long time ago.

So next in line would be dualcore. It was a huge break for many people who do alot of multitasking.

So far the greatest thing I seen all year was a mobility vehicle. No it is not the segway. This is much much cooler. Yes it is real too.

It looks like Toyota has hit something. That I think is really cool.

It is called the i-unit. (Look for the i-foot also. http://engadget.com/entry/1234000957036737/ )

Features:

Mobility with an Ultra Compact Size
The “i-unit” creates a seamless transformation between vehicle and human movement, minimizing occupied space and energy consumption with its lightweight and ultra compact size.
Variable Positioning
The i-unit has a compact size enabling the passenger to move among other people in an upright position in low speed mode, and a low center of gravity that ensures stable handling when the vehicles reclines in high speed mode.
Ease of Operation
Drive Controller
Drive-by-wire technology and intuitive handling enable the passenger to maneuver on-the-spot turns and drive at high speed at will.
IT Controller
A driver support information system uses sound, light and vibration to facilitate interactive communication.
Driver Support System
The driver support system features Intelligent Transport System (ITS) technology, which Toyota hopes to utilize for an accident-free society. The system permits efficient and safe autopilot driving in specially equipped lanes.
“My-unit”
A personalized recognition system can provide information and music, and body color can be customized, according to the individual’s preferences and emotions.
Environmentally Friendly Body Materials
The body is built using environmentally friendly plant-based materials such as kenaf(hemp).

Its maxium hieght is 6 feet. and is 3 feet wide and goes 25MPH.
Here is a couple pictures. More information here

High speed configuration:

I think the Worst of 2005 should be the Thermaltake Schooner. This thing was know to get hot enough to burn people when they reached behind their case.

My best innovations of 2005 list include:

Sony PSP
AMD dual core
cases w/ 10+ 5 1/4" bays
Asus mobos w/ heatpipes
google betas
iPod Nano

Worst releases:

ECS PF88 Hybrid motherboard - A64 and P4 on one board? Why?
Apple Mighty Mouse - Apple waits years to release a two button mouse and screws it up.
iPod shuffle - could cost cutting be any more obvious? Why not just buy white earphones if you're so desperate to be a podestrian
