OK i am lookin into a new mobo/processor/gfx card for my comp... and i have come to the conclusion of getting an amd 64 X2 4400 or better mabey a 6800 or 7800 gt and a DFI board... I want something that will last A LONG TIME. and it just so happens whe i built my computer about a year and a half ago there was no such thing as PCIe... SOO my question is WHAT THE HECK is the difference between these 2 boards... and do you have to run them in SLI?

I am not a DFI enthusiast or user, but I think one has a south bridge taking care of a few prepherials that northbridge did in regular SLI, that is why the more expensive one is called Ultera D, but the other is regular SLI-D (drive).
But I hear, SLI is waste of money.
If I was you I wait for new ULi1697 board that has Nvedia boards running for their money and is less expensive.
there is a good (overclocking) board by Asrock w/ Uli 1695 that is only $68 and uses both agp(true agp) and PCIe cards. I have the board overclocked to 307-308 mhz, w/ my Venice 3000.

It works like this . . . The "R" in "SLI-DR" referes to the extra 4 Silicon Image SATA ports. The "UT" means that it doesn't come with the extra accesories (the case strap and front X connect). So using this info, the answer to your question is . . .

DFI Lanparty NF4 UT SLI-DR - Has extra SATA ports. Doesn't have accessories.

DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-D nForce4 - Doesn't have extra SATA ports. Does have accessories.

By the way, you can also see all these things in the picture gallery. Although, I would warn you that TigerDirect made a mistake in their pictures of the DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-D nForce4. If you look at the box in the picture, it's actually the DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR and that's why you still see the Silicon Image SATA ports on it. (It seems like they are always making mistakes with their pictures.)

Here, use this link to look at the comparison on Newegg. (They actually take pictures of the correct products. )

I think all these models: Ultra-D, Ultra-DR, SLI-D, SLI-DR, with or without the 'UT', they're all the same board, only # of SATA ports, accessories, SLI chipset is different. As SoundX said, they will all overclock the same. They also all use the same BIOS versions.

AHHHHH also the DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Socket has SATA 300 (SATA II) but will these boards run with out 2 vid cards so no sli?

No, the NF4 Ultra D on up all have SATA 2. The DR also has 4 SATA I ports controlled by the SIL Image 3114. You're far better off using the NV Controller.

You don't "need" to use both PCI-e Vid slots on any but you can.
The Ultra-D can also be modded to SLI with a "connect the dots" deal.
