I was wondering if there is any difference between these two cpu's. I've read somewhere in these forums that the opterons were just the higher quality versions of the athalons. Also I do mostly CAD work so i was wondering if the opteron would perform any better in proffesional apps like solidworks. Any help would be great.

well i know something they have in common....

they both are ridiculously overpriced starting at almost $800.

I think you should wait for the fx60 You spend this cash now and then you'll be upset that you didnt get the better one that comes out in early january..but if you want one so desperately I suggest you wait still lol.. just kidding get the opteron 180 they use less voltage so most likely the probability of you getting a great OC is better than getting the 4800 x2+ although most seem to get relatively the same OC...
