What should I buy to lap my orb(s)?

OK Tomorrow morning I'm going to run to a local store buy some stuff to lap..

But I'm not positive what to buy..

AS far as I'm concerned I'm suppose to start with a 200 Grit Sand Paper....

How many sandpapers should I buy? And what do I buy to finish off the job with a nice clean reflection and stuff not leaving it dull..
I'm really concerned since I've been told the way orb's been made the epoxy was conductive and fried my GF 2 MX! I dont want the same thing to happen to my P3!!

DO NOT USE EPOXY ON YOUR CPU!!! that is not a good idea at all....epoxy is only for sticking stuff together ie the heatsink on a video card, a cpu has a clip and normal thermal -paste is not very conductive, still to be sure you must use a thin layer of thermal paste9this will also mprove cooling)......get 200,400,600 grit sandpaper and you should be fine, if you want it shiny also get some 1500 i have read however that shiny heatsinks perform worse(im not positive though).......also get a 3 sheets of 200grit and 2 sheets of 400 and 1 600 you should be fine.....

I hate to contradict Funny, but I've lapped several CPU coolers and one Blue Orb. I've never used 200 grit and even if you do, you sure don't need 3 sheets of it. That 200 grit is too coarse in my opinion and will leave scratches it you're not real careful. Go to a good auto parts store where they'll sell you individual sheets of wet/dry sand paper. Ask for one sheet each of 400, 600, 800, 1000 and 1200. If you plan on doing more heatsinks than one or two, maybe get two sheets of each. Alternatively you can substitute the 1200 for 1500 if you want but I've found that 1200 is fine enough. Personally, I think you can probably stop at 1000 grit. For the final polish, if you truly desire a shiny mirror surface, use a bit of metal polish (Blue Magic works great, is fairly cheap, found in the auto section of most department stores, plus I've used it to polish aluminum car wheels, plastic flashlight lens, antique brass, etc, etc.).

also just for curiosity, if intend to lap the HS, how long do u do it?.. cauze you don't want to lap it too much or too long of time. u don't want the HS surface to be slightly warped. u want to insure that the surface of the HS is totally flat.

#1 - Use Wet and Dry, not sandpaper. And use it wet.

#2 - You want it flat. So put the sheet on a hard flat surface. The flatter and harder the better (chunk of 18mm thick MDF is good)

#3 - Use plenty of water. This helps stop scratches.

#4 - Start at 600 grit, then finish with 1200 or 1600. Wet.

#5 - Use metal polish for a final shine.

How do you recognise something that is still technology?
A good clue is if it comes with a manual...

Posting the same question in more than one topic is not necessary.
