CRossfire or SLI

well guys whats it to be? I',m curious to see what you pros think. ever since i went with an abit mobo, my ati x800pro hates life. So I'm ditching everything and starting from scratch. offer an opinion, all welcome, if im wasting your time and there is a post some where please point me to it.
Oh, and Merry Christmas to one all, even if you dont celebrate it!

I would personally suggest SLI over Crossfire.

Crossfire is just generally a lamer technology and the performance improvement is not as significant. If you want an in depth review, buy the latest issue of Maximum PC.

Maximum PC = Minimum(mediocre) PC

It's up to you what you want. Both perform very similarly.

Definitely SLi. ATi is a little behind (understatement) right now. If you go SLi, make sure you have a good CPU, good strong PSU, and the right chipset. There's very little support right now for SLi on the Intel platform. The nf4 boards are total junk, so do your research and pick components carefully. There's a whole new load of stuff coming down the pipe from Intel, and so far it is looking outstanding.

If you go SLi, money should be no object, so don't skimp on components. The one thing that you skimp on, will be the bottleneck, or will cause issues and low performance. Many have suffered from not having enough power unit. Many others have wondered why FPS rates, and scores were low, when they didn't have enough CPU.

The whole system has to work together. If you pick good stable stuff, and stuff that is powerful, it will reward you with top performance. nVidia has the high ground right now, and ATi has tried to climb up the mountain, but they keep getting shot down from above. nVidia has so much technology stockpiled, it will be a long time before ATi is able to overcome the amount of technology that nvidia has massed.

Even if ATi comes out with some wiz bang "knock your socks off" card, nvidia will just release another one. It's a guess, but I'd bet money they are years ahead. Some folks have stated they are 9 generations ahead, and are just sitting on the stuff waiting on ATi to release something, and then they fire out another volley of cards. Just like the 512 card. That card is overkill to the max. It really isn't even needed, but they threw it out there just to assure they keep the performance crown.

We really need those stronger CPU's. It will be 9 months to a year before we can take full advantage of the power the cards deliver. The 512 GTX has shown a slight increase over the 256, but it's bottlenecked on even the strongest systems. When the stronger CPU's come out, those cards are really gonna shine.

wow good data 3d flyer Thanks, i was holding off on SLI as I thought ati was gunna knock it out. But it sees like slow adoption for mobos and no GAis weakening the cause.

You just may want to hang out for the 580 ATI chipset. It should have a lot of suprises in it...

(Well, not suprises because it's well documented but still...)

I would go with SLI if you're going AMD or crossfire if you're going intel. Both perform similar and both are expensive (although I dont believe you can get the crossfire card for the x1800s yet). And nvidia isn't as far ahead as 3dflyer would have you think (and they definatly dont have 9 generations of completed cards waiting for ati to catch up), both are top notch products and will play games with ease.

If your going to build in the next 30 days. Go SLi, the reason. Parts are very easy to locate. If you can find viable Crossfire parts, don't discount using them. They will play any game around and make you happy. Now if your a bench junky, look to actual user input. The ORB is a great place to browse for a comparison.

Some folks have has nice results on the new Crossfire. One nice thing about the ATi solution is. If you pull a rabbit out and get some large numbers, you will stand out amongs all the other hitters in the joint. Since the deep pockets all use the nVidia solution. You will have somehting to talk about. Everyone has talked the SLi to death. It does has the advantage of bieng around for a while now. The drivers are gettign real good too. ATi is still rather new in the dual card setups. So drivers may take a bit to get in the proper groove.

If you like the nVidia get nVidia. If your an ATi fan get ATi. Both make great cards. Your games will scream and make you wet your self from awsome visuals and gameplay.

i would say niether

Just get 1 ultra high end card and be done for,

But if you must, i would say SLi, just coz its more widely available and is a more experienced product
