Ive been using 1280x1024 forever, and decided to try 1280x960 as it's a more standard 4/3 size. When I switch, the image near the sides of the screen (more so on the left) appear squished or bent away. For example, if I view the Firefox icon (should be a perfect circle) from the center of my desktop, it's a perfect circle. If I drag it over to the left edge of the screen, it starts to squish vertically more and more. Its more like a vertical oval shape at the edge of the screen. Even the box with the "X" in fullscreen windows appears rectangular, but if I drag the window to the center, it's square. Text squishes and bends near the end too. Ive tried deguass, different refresh rates, moire, etc. WTF? 1280x1024 is fine.
