Help picking out a new game...

Well, one of the Christmas presents I got was cash for a new computer game. I've got an Athlon64 San Diego 3700 and a gig of ram and 2 6800GTs in SLI.

I'm looking for suggestions on what game to get.

Main thing I'm looking for is fabulous graphics.

I'm not that great of a button masher, so ease of control would be good.

Thanks in advance!

The only game you can really consider is F.E.A.R. - 2005 has been a pretty terrible year for games and F.E.A.R. is the one game which could make use of your hardware.

That is unless you've already got it...

Nope, but I did download the demo. I couldn't get it to load, but I didn't have SLI then, and I was on 2000, not XP.

Should I get the Director's cut?

I couldn't say... I have not played that version. I can say however that running F.E.A.R. in full settings wasn't possible for me (system is in my signature), I had to run it at 1280x960 so it should definately live up to your graphics expectations.

Fear is a great game to play. but the multiplayer can get old pretty fast.

I am currently playing call of duty 2 and the multiplayer is extremely addictive.

Half-Life 2, Battlefield 2, Far Cry, and Doom 3 are all good choices graphically...if you haven't already played them of course.

Thanks for the help everybody. I did get FEAR, and I already have HL2, but I haven't played it yet. Still have a bit of tweaking to do on the graphics for FEAR though. Says it has 98% above 40FPS for the autoconfig, but the game is jerky at those settings (1024x768). Dropped down to 800x600 and gameplay smoothed out. Just need to start tweaking.

...Jerky at 1024x768 on a 3700+ with dual 6800GTs? Something's wrong there. When I had it installed on mine I would have it 1280x960 then again I'm not incredibly picky about performance.

Ya I would think with that system you'd be getting WAY better graphics...

Yeah, I'm not sure what is going on either. I figure it will probably be something simple.

Don't know what it was, but I took it back up to 1024x768, default settings, and it was as smooth as silk. Testing the minimum FPS was 54 and it was averaging 100FPS. Time to bump it to the next level.

wow avaraging 100fps, thats pretty good, but that must be with medium graphics settings, I avarage 71 fps at maximum settings but without the soft shadow settings. If you play around more with those details, you can probably coem up with a good solution which will give you good graphics and good performance.

Half life 2 ... if you dont think its demanding enough, there is a HD mod that FAKEFACTORY made. It really adds to the graphics dramatically, yet because of the efficency of the source engine it runs very smooth if you have the ram to handle high resolution textures.
