socket A heatsink..

I'm building a computer for my brother atm.. didnt get a cooler yet. Anyway I'm looking for suggestions for a socket A HSF, pref under $25 shipped. I'll be running his AXP at 2.2ghz.

Dont really want to pay astronomical amounts for an SI-97, SLK, etc. As hes on a pretty tight budget. $25 is about the max shipping included.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Good luck on getting that sucker cooled. I had a TT Silent Boost all copper that seemed to be the best. The main thing is you need copper to get the head off the die. A heatpipe that had pipe right over the Die would be awesome but that big TR-SP90CU is the only one I know that meets the criteria!

the ALX-800 was a steal back in the day if they still make them they can probably be had for less than $20

i'm using a coolermaster jet 7, 100% copper. its quite good. you should be able to get it for under $25, but if you want a really quiet comp, dont get it. on the fast setting its noisy as a real jet! but it works really well to get rid of heat.

i know the brace around the heatsink is aluminium in the pics, but its copper really.

check newegg, there's a few going there. Including a thermaltake volcano 10...
yeah thermaltake's a bit overpriced, but if it does the job...
yeah, i know what you mean, but those fans actually shift a good amount of air. as i said, its a bit loud, but looks good, does the job, and if, like me you are constantly listening to music/gaming, you dont notice!
i also have two of the aerocool fans, the little ones without heatsinks, not fitted yet, but work well.

eh.. I dont think I'll get the jet thing. Hes got a side-window and IMO it looks pretty lame. I was thinking of looking at some TT heatsinks as they have just about the only decent cheapo all copper heatsinks. Thing is that I've got a volcano 7+ on my other comp and I really havent honestly been impressed by it.

Look here :: MASSCOOL FalconRock 5F286B 80mm Ball CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink - Retail = $15.98 shipped

It would be better to have a solid copper sink obviously. Yet your budget &
socket constraints limit choices significantly.

The above should cool fairly well and give a decent noise level since it has an 80mm fan.
Have used them myself on occasion & they are not bad for the price.

Hehe. Thats the one I had bookmarked originally to buy for him, but I figured since I somehow forgot to order it with the other stuff that I'd ask around here first
