F@H Spotlight #9

This is the 9th in the series of T32 Spotlights! I'll continue to interview members when given a chance. The interviews will appear in a spotlight every now and then as long as the nominations keep coming in! For how to go about nominating a fellow folder, please go to THIS THREAD. To see the ever growing list of who has been interviewed and the expected date of the next spotlight, please go to THIS THREAD.

When people talk about pwn-daddy, they are generally talking about Nikhsub1. However, times have changed. Nik has some sturdy and stiff competition! This week, you all will have the priveledge of delving into the mind of one such of these "Mini" Pwn-Daddies. His stats took a recent stumble due to the holidays, but they are heading straight back up through the roof having hit in excess of 8kppd the past 2 days. Who is this mysterious power-folder?

When did you join the Team?
This ones easy ...EOC stats tells ya - Mar 20, 05

If there was something recent that you did that you wanted your fellow
teammembers to know about, what would it be?
Been busy building the farm recently ... slowly over the summer, ramped up a bunch since september.

What is your EOC (extremeoverclockers) stats link?
My EOC

So where do ya happen to live at?
Toronto

How did you initially hear about F@H?
I think I bumped into folding first here ... built my first rig last Christmas, researched it a lot on the intel forum here. Started folding under default team sporadicly until i decided i should contribute my points back to the team that help me out so much in rig building and oc'ing

After starting, why do you continue to Fold?
Initally, wanted to put the idle cycles to good use. Did a little seti but decided folding was a more beneficial cause to contribute too.

After watching the stats, and building a backup rig for my home office, realized i had a few other puters around to fold on ... so borged what i had ... then decided to upgrade some of them ... got hooked on qmd's this summer and here i am.

What do you do for a living?
I am an IT architect at a big canadian bank. Spent 20+ years at IBM working with another bank. Built the first PC based retail banking network with the first IBM PC's back in '83. Refreshed them a few times, most recently in early 90's with os/2 servers and diskless workstations (about 25,000 pc's over the years).

Dude... you have been working with computers almost as long as I've been alive. Man... what a career. I hope you can have another 20 good years with computers left in ya!

What do you do for fun?
I like fast boats ... have several to get me to and from my cottage on Georgian Bay. Also like building things ... cottage additions, puters.

Is there anything special you do in your spare time that you really enjoy?
no ... i guess other than the above, i am really kinda boring. Well, i do like helping other people.

Time to spill your guts. What are the stats of your main folding rig?
Why is it your fave? What all do you use the rig for?

My sig rig is primarily for my work at home office ... have had a home office since late 80's (first machine was an ibm 386) ... office email, presentations, used to do some programming (assembler and c), printing
also video ripping/encoding and of course folding!
Currently folds 1 qmd 724 at around 550 ppd.

Do you have a Borg-Farm? If so, how many computers, and what are they?
sig rig p4c800 dlx 3.2e, 1gb
is7-3.0c 512mb
as8 - 520 - 1gb
as8 - 530j - 1GB
p5wd2-p 551 1GB
p5wd2 - 830 - 1GB
p4b533 3.06 512mb
ai7 - 2.4c - 512mb
p5p800 - 531 - 512mb
ic7-g - 2.4c - 1GB
p5ld2 830 - 2 GB
p5ld2 830 - 1 GB
company laptop thinkpad t41 - p-m 1.4 - 1GB
hp p3 1ghz 512 mb (wifes)
daughter has an xp1800 and toshiba laptop sometimes folding away at university

What are your future goals? What do you most want to accomplish with
your life?
finish putting 2 kids through university ... then get a bigger faster boat and tour

Well... a question shortter than the others... BUT... PSCOUT did promise pics once he got his new diskless farm set-up. Don't forget to bug him for those pics! Oh yeah, pscout, best of luck getting your children through college and enjoy the new year!

nice to meet you. Nice career there. My uncle worked for IBM for many years in NY before he retired.

Do they still make you wear those things that hold up your socks?

My uncle used to show me the employee handbook.

Good show, good show. Toronto eh? That's way up there in Canada eh? ::chuckle::. Take care Pete, and have fun on your boat. Hopefully we'll get ours out around march this year. Hell, if I didn't have a few calls to run, I'd probably drag it out there today . It's about 60'F, with a Jacket, perfect. Take care.

Thanks all ... you are all a great bunch to fold with

The boat thing started when i built my first boat at 10 ... then some hydroplanes that never went very fast (no $ for good engines) ... but when i bought a cottage on an island about 15 yrs ago ... well "you need to have a boat to get to the cottage honey"
... but she likes a quick, comfortable 10 mile commute ... so the big boat is a little formula (22') which can get us there in under 10 min in any waves.

but i have to be careful about the fast women (including my wife)

by the time I joined IBM in the 70's, and in canada, tj watson's influence had diminished a bit ... although there were still a few white shirt/blue suits around ... never did see any garters (on men!) at work ... but did see a company song book

After some work on my electric supplies, and some seasonal distractions, I have my rigs back online folding for me. Still more work to be done an the rack(s?) and ventilation.

So I should be back into the top 10 producers list this week.

Max0r, some work at borgage could get you there if you have the opportunities. I don't have much in the way of borging hope so I am limited by my farming capablity.

Winter hit early this year ... i took the last boat out end of Nov ... had to break 2" of ice to get to the cottage!

If I had 60 F temps (and no ice) i would go for a spin

w00r!!

hi there Pete!!

glad to see you got things worked out with your power problems
you should be back up in the top 5 (+/-1) in NO TIME!!

my best friends dad worked (retired) for IBM about the same time (late 70's) as you...i can still remember the Timex-Sinclare he had in the basement rigged up to a keyboard he *made* and an old B/W TV... good times good times...

from our chats B4, i had a feeling there was some hardcore computer knowledge in you, and now we know!

im happy to see that F@H has rekindled the computer flame in you and that you have a chance to share some of your "old-school" knowledge with us young'ens

since it is almost that time of year here ... i wil post a few boat pics once i find 'em ... just to get me in the mood

on the farm ... late summer i will put my mind back to house heating ... but since temps are arriving here, and i have had to reduce 2 rig's oc's already ... the impetus is on house cooling ... aka venting all this intel heat
