Pulled the trigger too fast on Presler?

The core can do it. Anandtech's OC test on the ASUS WS board pulled a 4.6 GHz prime stable 950 on AIR. And this board is not a great overclocker.

Fabs take time to get the bugs out. Do you think a 950 not making spec is going to get scrapped.? No way when it can become a 930.

Patience.

Something along the lines of the processors are capable of overclocking, but the manufacturing is not quite up to par yet?

Clearly you gotta read between the lines. He's saying he likes cheese only with hamburgers, not salads, and that he believes Bush's environmental program serve only to increase taxes.

He's talking about the speed bining that others were talking about. IE the 930's are looking like failed 940's

SO... is there a question in that or am i missing the point? I think you asked about binning but are you saying that you are waiting until they start binning purposefully (i.e. taking a 950 and making it a 930 because of volume) or are you talking about the board?

I worked for a few years on metrology equipment that did final QC measurements on wafers and it was quite interesting at one particular customer that most of us are familiar with. The very first phases of manufacturing are actually in an Oregon lab with the finest equipment, clean rooms and engineers running everything. The production prooveout process is done on 1 process line including growth, deposition, metrology, etc.... The quality is on these small runs are extremely good and ususlly set the goals for mass production. Then the overseas plants ramp up and pounds the wafers out.

My eposure wasn't in processors, but I assume processor rollout is the same. The chips coming out of the Oregon labs are usede internally and sent out as sneak previews and whatever marketing needs to be addressed.

I don't know if these first Preslers we are seeing here are part of the original short runs or these are the start of the mass production units. There's a big dufference.

Hi, I'm new to this forum.

So basically, are you saying that as time goes by, the Fabs will optimized there manufacturing process and the overclockability of the lower end models will increase?
