Mandriva display problem

I just decided to give Mandriva a try (I'm a complete linux noob) and after installation and rebooting (just before the password screen) my monitor started flicking on and off as if the os was trying different display modes, but it wouldn't stop. I'm using the vesa driver as the installer didn't have drivers for my card (X800GTO2/X850XT PE). Anyone know what might be up?

Go to a terminal, press ctrl+alt+f1 and be root. Then run "drakconf" and under display see if you can find your card there. No need to reboot just go back to ctrl+alt+f7 and press alt+bckspc
