Windows XP_x64 installed programs...

Hey. I'm installing XP_x64. Installing programs, it seems that its supposed to install 64 bit programs to program files, and 32 bit programs to program files (x86).

Everything I've installed, however, has loaded in program files.. how do I tell if they're actually 64 bit programs?

I mean.. shouldn't they default correctly? And aren't some supposed to have stars or something like that?

I just want to make sure I'm not wasting performance :- ]

HHmm , everything Ive loaded up on x64 (64 and 32 bit ) has defaulted to the x86 side . So far everything runs fine including BF2 . The only 32bit program Ive had problems running so far is Diskeeper 9.0 , I mean DK 9.0 installed ok , but the default MS defrag programs runs instead .

All my other 32bit programs such as Nero 6.0 Ultra , DVDShrink , 3DMark 05 , Winzip , RegSupreme ,etc ... all seem to do fine on the x86 side of things . Then again Ive only had x64 installed for a few days now , so maybe "Iam" doing something wrong .

Good to hear people having success with programs. That's beyond my expectations. My question is do I have to re-install all the software or can I use the exe's on some like photoshop and Nero or even games?

The "auto" install should work fine , no need to hunt down the .exe files .

what do you mean?? "auto" install? does 64bit look for all the 32bit pre installed programs? I will be using a different partition so I can have a dual boot 32/64bit.

Seems I mis-understood ur question . Thought you were asking if 32bit programs needed to be forced to install on a x64 ( ie: look for .exe/run files) .

Not sure about a duel boot .

probubly I know in the old days I could dual boot XP and Win 2000 and some programs would work jsut by clicking the .EXE. But it's not the old days anymore.
