Photoshop n00b in need of assistance

I just got a new job since school started up, and I am doing photo processing for an ad agency on campus. They need me to edit backgrounds out of pictures so we can use them in flyers, etc. I estimate about 80% of the pictures I will be editing are *not* bluescreen.
I am pretty new at the photoshop stuff and would like some help. I found some plugins that might work good:
Fluidmask from vertustech? http://www.creativemac.com/articles/...e.jsp?id=36004
I want it all to go smooth...they have no problem forking $ for something that will make my work go smoother.
Now, I look to the oc-ites for advice

Use the polygon lasso tool and the magic wand, and just cut out what you need to. Its what I do for all the pictures I have to edit. You can see some of the pictures (some of them are really old, from before I got there. You can tell by the quality) at www.tytyga.com

Is that your job to run that site? That must be a blast. I remember from when I was younger browsing through all of the fruit/veggie/gardening catalogs my mother received in the post.
I am messing around with those techniques you mentioned tonight. By the sounds of it, the agency purchased a copy of that plugin. I will write back in when I get some experience in using it. For the time being...I will have fun experimenting :-0
ty for the tips!

Yes, it is my job. I manage that one and another website, both oriented around a nursery.

That rocks. I miss my garden I had growing up.

As a followup to my post above, I have been working with Fluid Mask for the last few weeks and am happy to report that I am a happy camper. Very easy to use, and it really stream lines what used to be an annoying long task.
