Raidmax 500W.. ok?

gah, i dont really know why i care, ive run my venice at 2.7ghz fine, with 2 hdds, dvdrw, cdrw and a 6200 ocd fine on a generic 300W psu with 12A on the 12v, but anyway, i need a new one because ive built myself another pc to devote to SETI, and i was thinking of buying a new PSU for my A64, while the other pc gets the handme down

Anyway, is this PSU ok? 500W, 3.3/5/12v rails are 28/34/28a respectively, so it sure as heck is better than my current one, but just wondering if any of you guys have had any experience with this? Its only $53 (err about 35 USD) so i can actually afford it lol..

I wouldn't touch it with a 10ft pole. I'd rather pick up a 400w Fortron or 430w Antec. Of course it's a few more bucks but you get what you pay for.

A good powersupply is a very important component in preventing disaster. You never know when a bad supply will blow and take your components with it. A good supply isn't always expensive. The 400w Fortron AX400-PN is pretty cheap and capable and 40 USD before shipping from newegg...which isn't available in new zealand.

Only if it's one of the Topower models - the others are all crap. Unless you can actually open one up and actually see the "TOP" nomenclature on the transformers and/or the big black anodized heatsinks, I wouldn't assume a Raidmax is anything like a good quality unit.

Here's my vote for New Zealand's best bang for the buck ($67 USD, $75Cdn.): http://www.ascent.co.nz/ProductSpeci...?ItemID=342911

I'd be shocked if this unit ever breaks down on you

The link doesn't work. What was the PSU if I may ask? It's just that Ascent is way overpriced in general. There are much better options. eg. QMB, PBTech, DTC.

Fixed - it's a Delta GPS-450AA-100A. Innards pics here: http://terasan.info/dengen/no082/index.html

Delta has a teriffic reputation - one of the few companies I might consider over Fortron.

Edit - found it for $81.40 here excluding GST: http://www.aquilatech.co.nz/productD...Product=458462

Oh yeah, supercheap has got itself a super reputation which is not that super. Fine if you never have to return stuff. Its a couple of indian guys in a cupboard just off K Rd running the website from mmm, Sth Africa I think, on a shoestring budget which makes it tricky when something goes wrong. I know heaps burnt so Id definately recommend against them unfortunatly. My three favourites have never caused any problems on RMAs at all with several free upgrades in the process.

IMO, Delta is more decent than OCZ/Topower... their build quality is closer to Zippy and PC P&C quality than Topower.

lol tell me about it.. I ordered a 6200, they said it would be a 3days. deposited the money, a week later no video card.. i asked for a refund because i desperately needed a vid card (hence the 6200) for a 5day LAN i was co-hosting. The refund not only took over a month, but they replied rather.. angrily.. to my emails.. but what you say confirms they are bad.. K road, thats one dodgey place! lived in auckland for a couple of months in Pakuranga, and K road at night time is a scary sight indeed

Will the Delta GPS-450AA-100A work with older 865/875 motherboards? I ask because the spec says ATX2.0, which means 24 pin connector.
http://www.delta.com.tw/product/ps/s...-450AA-100.pdf
Will it still fit or do I have to get a ATX1.3 power supply with 20 pin connector?

The board I want to fit the Delta GPS-450AA-100A power supply to is a Foxconn 865PE, same as in this link:

It would work fine but you should use a 24-to-20 pin converter for compatibility.

Nice one, been on these 478 rigs now for awhile.
It still has the standard 4pin 12v volt plug that goes to the motherboard, right?

(hmmm, had a look around, plently of 20-24pin converts around, but almost zero 24-20pin converters in new zealand. What a shame, that delta looks really good, I have to go with a power supply not so great or get a ATX1.3 version )
