The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Possible system requirements

I found this on Oblivion Source:

"System Requirements
We think:

Minimum:
Processor: 1,2 GHz or better
RAM 256 MB
Graphic card ATI 9600 pro or equilevent
Network play N/A

Recommended:
Processor: 2,6 GHz or better
RAM 1 GB
Graphic card ATI X800 pro or equilevent
Network play N/A

We've looked at the specs of Half-Life 2, because the features in Oblivion are a bit the same. (AI, Havok, etc)"

Wow, that's actually kind of low minimum requirements if you think about it. Can you imagine trying to play it with a 1.2 ghz cpu and 512mb of ram? I'm kinda glad that they're jumping up to 9600 lvls though (and yes, I know it's just possible requirements )

256mb of ram doesn't seem right although its plausible for a "absolute bottom" minimum. If anybody runs that game with 256mb of ram, i feel very... very sorry for that poor hardrive that has to churn its own death. Even though that game isn't out yet, i can only imagine that hdd light staying rock solid every time anything happens.

The recommended looks to be in the ball park i would think

If it is as scaleable as HL2, I don't see any reason for the sysreqs to be that low.

From a previous thread:

"A quote from the official Oblivion forums:
Here is the standard set of specs used in what appears to be the "standard" dev machine, according to the German magazine GameStar:

* AMD AthlonXP 2500+ or 2600+ (Barton Core, 333MHz FSB)
* 1024MB (1GB) RAM
* ATi Radeon 9800pro, AGP with 256MB video RAM

from one of the many Official "Will my computer run Oblivion?" threads."

Its very likely that it dosent have HDR ,it might be somethign that is very similar to HDR that gives the game its good looks and is less system straining.

If you have a PC get it for PC, if you have a 360 get it from 360, if you have both, well lol, get it for both lol, nah jk ur choice. Id go for PC becuase if u go for 360 ull miss out on all the good mods from the elder scrolls community which will never be available on xbox 360. I mean cmon, the avarage system will run Oblivion no probs on at least medium high settings.

this is starting to look good for a march release... preorders happening at some retailers etc. i completely think the rumored min req's are possible... the engine has been tweaked and will not be quite as hardcore as what was seen in some of the e3 videos... plus the better the game scales to hardware the bigger the market for them.

I dont know why people tripped so hard at first over this. this isnt going to require the world to play really. Plus with a good engine that is bugless, any midrange syste, will be able to run it just fine.

Jotolicious, im sure you can sqeeze at most 2.70GHz out of that 3000+ why not oc?
Yeah that card looks just fine for that game but ur processor might be abottleneck. I would highly reccomend overclocking. I have seen those 3000+ to oc to 2.70 at at leat 1.48 volts.

i tried but for some reason i kept failing prime95 right away at like 2430 mhz and higher. i used memory dividers, lowered HTT, loosened ram timings, temps were fine, .. nothing worked and i gave up i think it's a mobo problem . . .

Those are more in line with what I think it'll actually end up being then the "You'll need 3 nasa super computers and a hubble telescope to run it on low" that keeps getting spouted over on elderscrolls forums, but they still haven't released any official requirements...and I'm waiting for the reviewers take on this beast before I pick it up.

A while back there were some screen shots that were pretty jaw dropping even for an FPS let alone an RPG. Knowing how demanding Morrowind could be in its day with much less graphical quality, people immediately started jumping to conclusions about how much of a system hog the game would probably be.

Since then, who knows... I kinda expect decent systems to be able to play it well, one way or another. There need to be people who have systems capable of playing the game in order to sell copies. Whether they had to build in some low quality settings, scaled back the graphics, or just got better performance/quality somehow, I don't know.
