Hey guys. i was wondering what good steppings would be for an xp2800.

this is what my chip says

AXDA2800KV4D 9590495280214
AQUCA 0307WPAW

Well its a 2800+ Barton week 7 of 2003. They pretty much are all the same for Bartons...It will be a locked chip, goodluck with it.

so theres pretty much no OCability difference between different Barton core? what does it mean when one is green and another is tan? (mine is tan) are they all considered good OCers? or bad or decent?

2003 week 7 means it is multiplier UNLOCKED. You will have as many multipliers available to you as the motherboard you're using will let you access.

Old unlocked Bartons do not overclock as high as new locked ones but their unlocked multipliers may have advantages on specific systems that can't hit high FSBs.

So really, you are looking at the type of your motherboard, cooling, and type of RAM to answer how much +/- from 2.3 GHz or so this chip will hit...

Post those specs along with the all important BRAND of power supply that will make or break your overclock.

well i dont have pics right now. im using an NF7-S, corsair XMS 1gb kit (2x512), and a Vantec stealth 520w power supply.

What do you need the pic for?

All right, so you have an excellent nForce2 mobo, PC3200 RAM and a decent power supply to overclock that chip 2.3 GHz and beyond.... but you didn't list cooling, That's the only thing that may be an issue.

The chip may not overclock as high as mobile Bartons but it should be a decent overclock.

Just a thought, doesnt it also depend on what rev he has of the NF7-S? if its the rev1.1, isnt it only capable of delivering 1.8VCore which they fixed in the rev2.0 (2.3VCore)?

Correct. Also, earlier versions could do low 190s FSB tops...

dont worry... i got 2.0 :D

and im just using an slk800 + $10 for 10 newegg fan. temps are usually 44 Idle ~50 load

Thermalright cooling? Wow, you have a top notch Socket A system, the only thing that's missing is a mobile Barton (if you don't count that even Socket 754 running at lower MHz frequencies may outperform Socket A's nowadays... :))

But seriously, with enough voltage, your desktop chip should go nicely over 2.3 GHz...

Agreed; and I would think you could get there even on 1.80v.

When you boot it up for the first time, check the default multi. IIRC, there were 2 flavors of desktop 2800s.
