Simple question: Do I have to re-activate windows if I use ASR to restore my drive to the same system?

Yes, you'll more than likely need to re-activate XP after an ASR.

I had just bought the XP Pro upgrade and performed a clean install and got all the drivers installed and everything up to day. I then made a ASR backup of my C drive.
Figuring there's no better time than the present, I went for it and did a restore. At first I was nervous because it formats your drive automatically and I have other drives with lots of data on them, but everything worked out perfectly.
And FYI, XP did not have to be reactivated
