A8n32 Bios 1103

Seems Asus updated to a new BIOS v1103 yesterday. (2/17/06)

Anyone using it? Feedback?

Not sure. I just downloaded it tonight. I cant figure out how to get mine updated. The asus xp updater wont work. Keeps giving me an update error with nt. Asks me to restart the computer and try again. Any one have a link on a how to update bios? I'm still kinda new at this. So bear with me.

Got two floppy disks?

Make one MS DOS starter disk.

The second, place AFUDOS and BIOS 1103 on it.

Boot from your floppy startup into DOS, then swap in your disk with AFUDOS and the new BIOS. Then type: AFUDOS /iA8N321103.rom

Dont mean to state the obvious, but I dont trust the windows installer.

*edit*

Here is a link: http://support.asus.com/technicaldoc...Language=en-us

The only reason to use two floppies is the fact the BIOS is so large. It cant fit with the AFUDOS file on your startup disk. Also, I forgot to mention, be sure you are placing the raw unzipped BIOS and AFUDOS on your floppy.

I flashed yesterday. Works fine No real difference I can see or feel. My rig posts a litte slower and that is about it. Seems stable and pretty much the same as 1009 IMO.

I read the description of the changes. Doesn't look like much of a change really, and not worth another bios flash IMO. Too much risk for so little gain. I'd rather them fix the warm boot issue, then I'll update.

I am at work and I cannot find a link for DrBoot boot disk maker. I will post a Downloadable zip for DrBoot tomorrow. You can put the full Bios file on a floppy with AFUDOS on a disk that has been made bootable by DrBoot. This eliminates the need to use 2 floppies.

Here's the best way I can describe the warm boot issue:

I can get my Opty stable at a particular overclock and voltage. It will boot up fine when turning on the compy, but will not boot up via a Windows Restart execution. It simply hangs up during Post. To get the Windows restart to occur normally, I have to increase the core voltage. This is why it is called a "warm boot" issue. There are folks reporting the problem over at XtremeSystems as well. So, I run my VCore one or two vcore settings higher than what is actually required to keep my core stable, just to avoid reboot hang-up problem.

Driver Free Disk For BIOS Flashing
Quote:
www.bootdisk.com

Yes, this bios flashing bootdisk was created by me, and has been the number one util
for bios flashing for over 4 years. And, it's carried by many motherboard makers and
over 3,200 other websites all over the world.

It has NO drivers loading. And I created it with special care to assure that no extra
Bytes/bits were on the disk that could interfere with any operation or file copying.
It should have room for your flashing utility, your new bios file, and space for the
backup of your original bios in case you need to go back.

For a non-Windows based image of this disk please go to www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

It's been used by over 1,750,000 people with no problem.

Kindest regards.

I'm having a slight problem here, as I've lost the cd that came with the board, and don't have the asus update app installed... I also don't have a floppy drive, so I'm stuck. If anyone would feel up for making an image of the driver cd, and finding a way to get it over it would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone tried a bios flash off a flash drive? Being that the board defaults to a flash drive if it's inserted on a reboot, it should be possible, no? Would i copy the set up files off a floppy boot disk then copy the Afudos directory, etc. It sounds good on paper, anybody tried it?

(reason being i don't trust the Windows method and I dont have a floppy hooked up.)

Flash your bios on a pc with no floppy drive.

flashcd.iso is an image of a bootable dr-dos 7 cd. In order to make it
usable to also handle your bios flash files it has a cdrom driver and
mscdex.exe loaded. What you will be doing is adding your bios flashing
program and bios file to the .iso and then burning the .iso to cd.

BEGIN WARNING

The best way to flash a bios is using a clean booting 1.44 floppy disk
but lots of pcs are built these days where the manufacturer thought it
was a a cool idea not to include one.

If you have another pc with a floppy drive, you should really first try
copying your bios flash files to a clean, bootable dos floppy and then
burning a boot cd from the boot floppy that contains the flash utilities
and using that cd on your floppyless pc.

Or better yet, see if you can add a floppy disk to your pc.

If the above are not options then using this util and instructions is
another way to address your dilemma.

Please be aware of the possible implications of flashing before you
proceed and ALSO make sure that:

1. The bios flash upgrade from your motherboard maker actually addresses
the problem you are trying to solve.

2. You make a backup of your bios which you should be able to do on your
hard drive but also save the backup to a cd so you can get to it later with
a bootable cd such as this.

END WARNING

There are 2 files in this zippack, this readme and the flashcd.iso file.
If you just burn the .iso as a test you'll see the bootfiles as drive A:
What you are going to do is add your bios flash files to flashcd.iso and
then burn your bootable cd which will include your bios files which will
be seen in drive R: I'd also add the bios backup file you made.

I use UltraISO to do this. It's a free trial. www.ezbsystems.com

To add bios files:

File | Open | Select flashcd.iso | Open | Image windows shows bootable |
Select your bios files in the lower window | Drag to the top window | File |
Save

Note that oddly, the file size of flashcd.iso may not change.

To burn:

File | Open | Click on flashcd.iso | Open | You'll see your bios flash
files on the right | Tools | Burn

Also note that if using another program it's best to use the same program
to copy files to the .iso and use the same program to burn the modified .iso

When you boot with the cd the startup files will be seen as drive A: and
the bios files will be seen as drive R:

Keep in mind that adding files to an .iso is still a new science. Also use
a good brand of media.

Thanks, that seems like a very cool app.

I downloaded the app for upgrading from windows, but it gave a very mystic error message and would not install (not an Asus board?). After alot of fighting I decided to test a registry backup I took before "scrubbing" it last. It immediatly let me install the application...

So basicly it requires some kind of registry value to be able to install any of the applications. No idea how that value gets there in the first place....

edit:

Oh yes, back to the topic

Flashed bios, don't notice any differance. Can't overclock any higher, did'nt see any menus change... I guess the changelog was pretty accurate
