First of all ... i just registred on this forum because of all the information i found here!

I'm gonna buy a new system. It will exist of the following components:
- AMD Athlon64 X2 4400+
- DFI Lanparty UT Nf4 Ultra-D
- OCZ Platinum PC3200 2048MB Dual Kit
- PowerColor Radeon X1900XT 512MB GDDR3
- Creative SB X-Fi XtremeMusic
- Zalman CNPS9500LED Ultra Quiet CPU Cooler

I did many research and i hope i made the right choices!

I have a couple of questions:
- Did I made the right choices for the components ? CPU, RAM, ....
- If I installed all this in my new rig. What must I first do ? bios update, install os, ....
- What version of bios would be best ? Dual Core Patch, X1900XT compatibility, ...
- What programs do you use for overclocking/monitoring ?

With friendly greetings,
HarryPothead

PS: Sorry for my english ! :)

Can you check how much a Opteron 165 is where you live, its a better deal then the 4400 X2 as it will overclock better.
Everything else is looking very good but what PSU are you going to be using??

i'll stick with X2 4400+

I'll use the Thermaltake Silent Purepower 680W.
Think that will power my system enough

If you don't know, why are sticking with the 4400 to begin with?

I have seen the 4400+ (2.2GHz stock) overclocked stabe to 2.7 - 2.8.
The lowest I've seen was 2.5.
I will be pleased if i can get the 4400+ work at 2.6GHz.

The opteron (stock 1.8 GHz) will do better better overclocking (for a 1.8GHz Proc). Ive seen overclock result of 2.9GHz on this one!

I've read many many reviews and did even more research!
It was just a simple question to answer ...

For example:
If i have an opteron 165 and a 4400+ running at 2.6GHz ..
Would they (theoretictly) have the same performance ?

Witch processor would get more easy to run stable at 2.6 ?
I think the X2 4400 because he is already running at 2.2 ...

it all depends on the draw of luck on oc. if you can, test how far ur x2 4400 can push, 2.6ghz should be no prob. my x2 3800 can run at 2.85ghz stable.

as for installation, this is what i did.

1. install OS
2. install drivers from cd (dont' install the nvidia firewall tho)
3. install the dual core driver and hot fixes here
4. update bios

i used the speedfan and smart guardian or something from the cd util to monitor the cpu/chipset/pwd temps.

Yes you should be able to get the X2 4400 stable at 2.6 easer just because it already has the higher speed advantage from start. As far as comparing performance, both CPU's OC'd to lets say 2.6 will be identical as far as performance. The main reason people here go with 165's/170 Opties is due to the better value in comparrison to the X2 chips and generally the Opterons have been much better and more stable OCers compared to the X2's. And to some it's just preference and personal choice.

and dont the optys have a better memory controler. ive seen people get 165 optys way over 3 ghz before but that was on phase and and such. mines at 2.85 right now and thats because my motherboard wont boot pass 318 htt.

Thx for the reply's!

I ordered the 4400+ with all the other components today!
The Opty's 165 and 170 werent in stock today and arent going to be in stock till 27th Feb.

I wil have all the components tomorrow.

I'll keep in touch how things work out!

PS ... sry for my english!
