As the title says really.

Off to buy a laptop tommorrow. Looking to spend around the £750 ($1250) mark. Can any of you experts recommend a decent spec system?

I dont know much about laptops, CPU, graphics cards etc. So go easy!

Those are all pretty big laptops, good if you don't haul it around much or are the size of Jesse Ventura-

I'd go with the Intel Centrino / Pentium M rig, very good battery life.

I have a Fijitsu (in my signiture) with a 13'3" screen that I'm using right now- it's perfect for me, as I travel a lot.
 
Yes, pint M is good, i sugest you get that for the happyrewarding feeling you get when your the only one in a class that still has battery life left.

Went for the Asus in the end, on the grounds its graphics caarrd was not "so" integrated so that future use may be "safeguarded" in some respects.
