Is my DVDRW Drive Dieing?

I have been having problems with CD's I have been burning using my Sony DVDRW/CDRW drive. The last couple music CD's i have burned (converted MP3 to .WAV) the last 15 minutes of the cd have some weird skipage and in one case the CD totally freezes and requires me to skip to next song. I also burnt a Data CD for a friend and when Nero was doing the file validation after the burn it said it failed.

It just seems weird that it seems to be toward the end of the disc that the problems are arising from.

If anyone has a clue as to what is going on and if its my drives fault please let me know
