Apogee vs. DD TDX

Well, svc notified me today that the apogee I ordered is out of stock, funny since its still listed as in stock on their website. Anywho, I originally went with the apogee because of its high price performance ratio, now that it costs just as much as the TDX, I am now considering just getting that. I could just drive up to microcenter and pick one up for $50, is there any reason to go through the hassle of ordering another apogee online?

I use TDX blocks on all of my rigs. The price is always there with the D5/TDX combo for $108 and the performance/ease of installation is always there. On an A64 system the tdx does not require removal of the motherboard. I consider that a huge time saver when I setup water cooling rigs. It takes literally less than 5 minutes to strap down a TDX. Price/Performance/Ease of Install = OK in my book.

haven't used either, but there hasnt been any bad press about the TDX and its been out for a long time. There are mixed replies about the apogee. If i had to choose, based on design, reviews, etc....i would go for the TDX

I would definatly wait for someone who has had an apogee to reply because it seems these people are leaning twords the TDX because they have one. Im sure there has to be a review comparing them somewhere, have you tried google searching it?

Both blocks are good at what they do. His question was since the Apogee is out of stock will the TDX be a good replacement?

Of course it would. *edit*Based on myself being a very impatient individual! I can only imagine he may be real excited about this water cooling loop. I say just get the TDX and put the loop together

I'd say It's worth the extra effort to install the apogee.

LMAO. Thanks Mac. I guess I had that one coming.

They both do make excellent blocks though. If I know myself, and I put myself in this guys situation "I have no patience and I want everything done right away" if a part that I ordered wasnt in stock and there was another part that offers pretty much the same performance and was a proven unit I think I would choose that part. I do see that you are using an XP-120 with air cooling. Do you have any experience with Apogee blocks? Maybe you could provide this gentleman with some information from your setup?

no, I've just been doing a lot of research lately, as I am wanting to get this x1900 on water. thing is hot and stock cooler is loud. and will get the cpu on water as well.

At any rate, I take my previous statement back. the TDX is just as good a block if not better than the apogee. According to this article:http://www.systemcooling.com/swiftech_apogee-09.html, the temperature differential between the thermal die and the water is significantly smaller for the RBX (close in performance to the TDX i think). Plus a few rare people have had problems with the apogee leaking.

plus at dangerdenstore.com there is a deal for the d5 laing pup and the tdx block. 108$ for both. I think I know what I'm getting anyway. A TDX

I did a complete review on the TDX and a full Danger Den setup for Overclockers.com here: http://www.overclockers.com/tips1222/

It is a nice little article for water cooling noobs. I found the TDX to be a great solution for A64 systems. I also heard reviews of the Apogee leaking and having metal pieces from manufacturing in the actual waterblock. Although I havent had a chance to use the Apogee or Storm yet so I have no substantiated evidence to back myself up. I definitely want to get some testing in with the new Storm Blocks. I hear with a decent flow rate they are supposed to be top notch.

In any event, good luck with your setup and keep us posted.
