now the drive plays dvd's LOUD AS HELL!
like its spinning them up all the way..too loud to live with
anyone know how to fix this?

is it using the oem or modded firmware? alot of nec modded firmwares have speed patches. i have flashed 3540 and 3550's and both had these issues.

i have some alternate modded firmware if you'd like to try it. another way to settle down the noise is to use anydvd and select the speed/quietness you want it to read at.

the 3550's come with no RIP-LOCK so that means they will be able to rip at full speed meaning they will also spin up at full speed. All you have to do is download some firmware to allow it to spin to a certain point making is much quieter.

EDIT: Be careful, read up before flashing, one mistake and you have a dead drive.
