2 words: Different PSU. It doesn't matter if you already have it, if you plan on overclocking much at all (I'm guessing you are because of the Ultra-D and Opty) I would definitely go with a different PSU. I've heard some bad things about Ultra PSU's, and you shouldn't risk an expensive system with a PSU like that. If money is a concern, then just switch the video card to a 6800GS or 7600GT, either one should do about as well as that X850.

The rest of your system looks fine.

do you really think that might be a problem? cause im kinda short on money.. but so far i havent had any problem wiht my PSU.. i tried OCin my 3200+ from a 2.0 to a 2.2 and was stable (with ****y mem).

for right now i have to stick with this PSU...cant afford another decent one

You should be fine with that PSU if you've already been using it, but the Ultras are pretty much hit and miss from what I've heard, which is why I recommended getting a better PSU if you have the money.

that ultra isnt a bad psu, if it were me i wouldnt get another psu unless i needed to. try that ultra in your system and if the rails are solid i wouldnt worry

yea right now i get well over the rails like a little over so im getting sufficent power with this PSU also it looks GREAT

PSUs are everything, bad/underpowered ones are known to cause all kinds of problems.

from not being able to OC well, to random system restarts...etc

Might wanna check some other prices online, you can get stuff for alittle more cheaper.

Newegg offers that same CPU for a little cheaper:

do you guys think he would get a better benefit from 1gb of ram and 7900gt

or 2 gigs and a x850xt???

my thinking is cheaper to upgrade ram down the road than vid card

True. The only way it would be just as cheap to upgrade the video card later would be through eVGA's step-up program, and since they only make nVidia cards, you wouldn't be able to use the step-up program for the X850. You probably won't need 2GB right now unless you'll be playing poorly programmed games like BF2. Modern games won't need more than 600-700k with all settings on high assuming they have good programming. The only reason BF2 uses so much is because of a huge memory hole. There are probably a few other games with memory holes, but none as large as in BF2, so you'll probably be fine with 1GB for a while unless you play a lot of BF2.

Waiting for this to come in....

After way too much reading of this board and others, I've decided on the following components, with intent to OC and move to SLI eventually. Any advice or changes would would be appreciated.

PC Power and Cooling 510 SLI

Opteron 175

eVGA 7900GTX

Silverstone TJ05S...btw Monarch has this for 135..I bought it there.

Raptor 150

K8N Diamond My current 754 is the MSI Neo, and its very stable, which is important to me. This mb has had good reviews, Oc's well and has 16x PCI-e SLI. It also has more room for SLI.

Yes, I know about the g.skill on sale for $144 at newegg and almost decided on them. For another $140 at this point, I don't care. Xtreme, Anand and others rate this memory very well.

That's the memory with Micron -5F isn't it? Nice, you should be able to get 300mhz on those with any luck. But... I don't think you'll be needing the PCP&C power supply. If you can afford it, then go ahead, but you should be fine with the OCZ Powerstream 520W, Silverstone Zeus 560W, Sparkle 550W (forget the model number), or a few other options that are cheaper than the PCP&C. Also, just so you know, the fan in the PCP&C you chose is as loud as a 747...

I've prepared myself for the noise of the PSU...I think in terms of upgradeability, this is the PSU to beat. I'm hoping to keep this thing through an upgrade or two. As for the memory, it cost a bit more, but its supposed to clock well at 3200 to start and then OC very well once I burn in and get comfortable. I'll try and post when it comes in and in a few weeks once I start to stretch it out...

That is very close to the PC that i will be putting together on Monday. Hopefully my new Evga 7900GTX Superclock and A8n Premium will be here. Already confirmed shipped. Whoo Hoo. I already have my PC&C 510 Sli psu and it is simply amazing. My first 7900GTX (xfx) extreme edition was DOA but it ran the 7900 GTX for the first day flawlessly until it started artifacting. Not to mention it has the highest A on the 12V+ rail for the price. Just out of curiostiy I installed my 6800GT AGP and began to OC with the PC&C to see if my old Antec 450W 18 A 12v+ was limiting my overclock before. With my old Antec PSU i could only reach (400/1055) before games would crash and random reboots would happen. Even at (400/1055) i never saw artifacts which lead me to believe it was a power issue. Now with my PC&C my 6800GT AGP is steady at (425/1140) with a 05' score of 5762. Anyway, sorry to go off on a tangent, have fun with the machine.
