my new desk

well my old desk is way to small, especially for my case and 2 monitors, and since my room has been re-arranged, i finally have more room

here is the desgin of what it is gonna look like

not sure of the material im going to use, probably something cheap and sturdy

the building is gonna start within a few weeks

EDIT- its gonna be about 30" tall

well 30" is what i have now, and i have a keyboard tray that is made into the desk, and i dont hit it unless i move my chair higher, so i figure the 30" is ok, im 6'3" and i find it comfortable...then again i lean alot

i needed a new one anyways

that was a little too small to have the speakers, 2 monitors and a printer on there, because that printer table was given away (because i wasnt using it apparently) and my legs were very cramped

oh ya, there is a second revison coming

I have one question about the dimensions. I know you said it's not to scale, but the way you have written the dimensions seems confusing (possible typo). The right side's length is marked as 60" total (5 feet), but within that length the right extended part is marked as 12' 3". Is the 12 feet correct? If so, that will be plenty of desk space for you, but if not, I tend to agree with others, that it would be pushing small for 2 pcs and my liking.

Also, are you building this out of wood? Just curious about the details. So far it looks good, and I'm interested to see you start building. Hopefully you'll find more room for your mousepad!

yes that is a typo, im not sure how big it was supposed to be (probably about 20" or so) but that design has now been scrapped, and i am currently re-working it

it is going to be made out of wood indeed, not sure what type but definatly something not to light or cheap

and am now contemplating getting rid of the hole corner idea and going with a 7ft 1 side desk with the 2 cabinets on it still (like on this one)

Almost makes me feel bad knowing I'm not the only one with the "ghetto homemade desk" anymore. =\

shard came by for a week last summer and before then he thought my desk was a ghetto POS, then he realized how sturdy it is and became envious of it. lol

I'm keeping an eye on this one. Good luck!

and that is hopefully the last revison on this desk thread

i will be having my computer currently in my sig on the right side with the NEC monitor (and maybe an LCD if gf buys it ) and on the left side a 2.8ae system, for....well nothing really just fun
you can see in the corner theres 2 lines (2x4 running underneath for support) and i will be having l brackets on the back for more support
i plan to have a little runway around the middle so cables are nice and tidy, and will only have 1 set of keyboard and mouse for the 2 rigs (if i find a kvm that works with the mx duo)

I think I much prefer this design... when do you think you'll start building?

cutting of wood has commenced

it is gonna be made from scrap wood in garage/car hole (whatever you prefer to call it) and will end up being painted black, mostly because theres different wood stain on peices so i gotta cover em up, but hey, free wood is free wood

I know what you mean. This desk I'm using was made of scrap partical board lying around in the garage. I built it three or four years ago and it's withstood quite a beating. The top was orignally made up of a sheet of 1/4" partical board and a sheet of 1/4" plywood nailed together. I replaced it last year with two 1/2" sheets of partical board. Even though the legs are made form the existing particle board I started with 3-4 years ago, it's still going strong, and I expect it to for the future years to come.

More pictures!!!!

Later on get some ballbearing drawer rails from lowes or home depot. They can hold ALOT of weight and wear and tear, plus they're easier to pull out.

Looks amazing!
