Are pci nic cards faster than onboard nic's?
Just wondering.

I once heard that PCI NCI's are faster becuase they dont suffer the onboard northbridge/southbridge choke. :shrug:

Current onboard ones would be much faster if you are dealing with gigabit networking. A lot of the onboard gigabit NICs are connected through PCI-Express channels.

If you are talking about 100mbps, then it really wouldnt matter all that much. 12.5 MB/s isnt all that much compared to PCIs 133MB/s bandwidth the the even faster northbridge/southbridge connections.
