The Red Library DLV Project

I just created a team for us for The Red Library DLV Project. Here's what it does:
Quote:
Red Library is Ready Response's search engine with a difference - every single link in the database is hand picked (at present 7000+ links) and categorized. It is a tremendous resource and used by many other sites/visitors worldwide, but as with all search engines there is always a possibility that a link in the database will become a broken a link (404).

The idea behind this project was to make a client application which downloads links from the Red Library server, validates them (i.e. checks to see if they are 404 or not) and then returns the results back to Red Library. The Red Library server will then double check all the links that come back reported as 404, and remove the links if they are found to be down over a period of 7 days or longer. Basically - the more people that run the client, the less bad links will be present in Red Library!
Here's the link to the site if anyone wants to read more about it:
http://www.readyresponse.org/index.p...tributed&opt=2

Here's the link to our stats:
http://www.readyresponse.org/index.p...&opt=12&tid=23

*Edit: I see THF joined up! WTG man!

IMO, it's going to be pretty easy flying up the ranks in this. I have plenty of internet bandwidth so spare so I'm going to stick this thing on a few more of my compies. The top users today have done like just over 7k links and I have done about 150 in around 10 minutes so I really don't think it's going to be a problem overtaking other teams left and right.

Ok, I just found out when trying to install on some older machines that you need .net installed, but it's not a problem, as I am installing it on those machines as we speak.
I was reading their faq section and as it turns out, I can run up to 3 instances at the same time on each computer!

Nevermind, I was wrong. I thought it meant on each computer but it's only 3 clients per user. Sorry.

So would it be wrong for me to have several usernames so I could run more?

*Edit: Man, I feel like such an idiot. I guess I just got trigger happy when I saw the 3 client thing lol.

I dunno man. I'm maxed out at 3. If you want, then make a new Username...

here is what they say on thier forums:

Quote:
Hi,

We covered the main reason behind the cap in this thread: http://www.readyresponse.org/forums/...pic.php?t=1899

Basically there is no need for someone to be running 20 clients on one internet connection...because they would end up doing unnecessary work which would not be useful to the project.

We will obviously be aiming to detect people who sign up for multiple accounts in order to try and run more clients. We are well-aware that there always a way around the restrictions - and we hope that users respect the project and the reasons for the restrictions being in place.

Soon the client limits will be removed...but until then we will enforce it in every way we can Smile

Thanks.

Wang
So with that... I'd say just go with 3 clients.... and figure out another team to start from those bottom 3-4 clients on the DC list

Thanks Frank, that cleared it up a bunch. I'll run my 3 clients from my house and try to get 3 more up on another connection accross town, since their main concern seems to be with 3 per connection rather that 3 per user.

There is still Majestic-12 and MoneyBee left that we dont' have teams in. Maybe one of those could fill up your spare compies internet time?

Yah.. Start a Majestic-12 team. The MoneyBee is a CPU hitter.... it'd take away from the F@H/BOINC time that concerns the others.

I could install it on my mom's lappy but that is already folding and DIMEing, and that is already almost more than it can handle, so I think I'd better play it safe.
