Hiya folks

i do quite a lot of downloading and most of my files are quite big roughly 100- 1gb. and this takes time with my internet connection so it means i have to leave my computer on to keep the net live. my monster of a machine eats up the power and raises the electricity bill by quite a lot. is there anyway of keeping my internet connection live whilst the computer is on standby. i have wireless net connection if that helps.

any suggestions?

There is no way with "standby". You can do one of two things: underclock whatever you can (this is only CPU, RAM and videocard usually). Not much gain tho
Or second, get an old PC (486 is enough even) and use it as a router with Linux
