Just saw one of the first things of the Perpendicular Drives over at THG.

http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/04/17/segate_announces_cheetah_perpendicular/

A nice increase in throughput going from 58-96 to 73-125, mind you its a 15k SCSI drive but still I consider that a decent increase in speed minding you that harddrives really haven't changed considerably in years.

Is there anymore release date information on the new perpendicular drives for SATA connections?

the only other perpendicular drive at the current time is 2.5" format for laptop use it would probably be slower than a standard 3.5inch drive
sas and sataII are compatable tho right? it would shame the raptor fanboys :)

SAS uses SATA as a transport layer. The protocols running over the transport layer are incompatible.
