Want to record guitar, Keyboard, Etc

One of gals at work has a project for school, She has had to make a short video, Approx 2-3 minutes, She would like me to put some music to it, I have an acoustic guitar, An electric guitar, A mandolin and a Yamaha electric keyboard, I have never tried to record through the computer before, Any good tips would be appreciated, Is there good inexpensive software available to make this work? I don't need it to sound like a professional recording, However I would like the quality to be as good as possible. I have some decent mics for recording the acoustic guitar, And of course with the keyboard and electric I would like to do a direct plug in. My computer specs are in my signature. Any tips/help would be greatly appreciated.

It's pretty simple really. First, you'll need a program to record with, I recommend Audacity for the situation you're in. It's absolutely free and records with decent quality. After you get your program you'll need to physically set up your gear for recording. Most of the time this consists of buying a simple 1/4" to 1/8" converter cable or converter--pretty cheap and good solution--only $4 at most. Then you attach that converter to the end of your instrument cable and send it through the line-in port on your sound card. Finally, make sure the sound source is line-in and jam away.

Thanks for the input, I already have the converter cable so I should be good to go. I believe if I had the more expensive X-fi card I would have some decent recording software with it, But I have what I have so I appreciate the information very much.

You're welcome, I enjoy sharing my knowledge.

As far as packaged recording software I really don't know, but as far as I know Creative doesn't really put much in software-wise besides a few patches and drivers.

The way I had my setup going was I had an M-audio delta audiophile 2496(it had RCA in and outs). I had a 4 channel mixer running to the RCA ins. Then I used a program, like Steinberg Cubase to record.
