From reading around a bit, it seems that for people going multi-processor in Windows, a hotfix and an AMD update were needed.
The Hotfix # was 896256, and the AMD Opteron driver was this "Powernow!" thing.

I have installed XP SP2, with two Opteron 270's, and task manager shows 4 cores, all running fine.

I'm curious as to if or not I still need those two updates!

Thanks.

Okay, I read that -- it would appear I don't need them then?

Do you recommend utilizing the power-saving features anyway?

I have not had any threading problems with my dualcore and never installed the hotfixes. Been running the X2 since last September. I don't use the cool'n'quiet feature because it hampers overclocking.

I have always updated, even though there was no problem without using them.

I install the AMD Cpu driver and the hotfix. I never have seen performance decreases with them, as far as increases i've heard it helps keep cpus from topping out to 100%.
