7900GT CO vs. 7900GT KO...

Hey,

I just sent in my invoice for my 7900GT CO and I feel something deep inside me saying damn I want a KO instead. By the looks of it the CO and KO will score/perform the same at stock speeds correct?

Is it just that the KO will run cooler? or are the KO cards cherry picked and will OC much better?

Thanks

Just noticed this on the press release:

The EVGA e-GeForce 7900 GT KO edition will be available in both standard and SuperClocked™ versions. Here are a few highlights:

• The memory is now covered by the innovative EVGA copper heatsink and fan, which allows for better cooling (6 degrees Celsius, on average).
• A hand-selected single NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX 3D processor and 256MB of qualified high-performance DDR3 display memory.
• The board is EVTweaked™ to run at a 500MHz core clock and 1500MHz effective memory clock.

GTX core? Superclocked version? Hand picked?

I think the CO and KO will overclock about the same up to around 1.5v, but after that the KO will really pwn, since the stock voltage on the GTX is 1.4v, compared to only 1.2v on the GTs. So I guess it'll be like the Mobile AXP of video cards, to put it simply :P

Anyone else have an opinion? Anyone tested a KO?

Doesnt really matter becuz I'm getting my 7900GT CO sometime this or next week. I still want to know if the KO is any different.

Just got my EVGA KO, stock core and memory were 520MHz / 1540MHz. Was able to get it to 555MHz core / 1880MHz memory with no artifacts.

I have the plain EVGA 7900GT (stock clocks are 450/1320). At stock settings my 3DMark05 score is ~7850. I used Coolbits to autodetect "optimal" frequencies and it returned a setting of ~550/1500 (something like that). At these settings, my 3DMark05 score jumped to ~9300.

Didn't have much time to mess with it last night. Did run a 3d Mark '05 and got 9658 with it at 540 / 1840. Will do more extensive benches today as I will have more free time.

Took off my KO heatsink and took a look at the memory modules and they are the K4J55323QG-BC14. 14 referring to 1.4ns memory which figures out to 714MHz. Found the chart below to confirm this at Samsung's site

K4J55323QG-BC12 800MHz
K4J55323QG-BC14 700MHz
K4J55323QG-BC16 600MHz
K4J55323QG-BC20 500MHz

They are 1.8V +-0.1V parts and from the threads I have read about overvolting they are already at 2.03V from the vendor. Then they are already being overvolted from the vendors.

ATITool originally reported 470MHz memory clock without errors but I could clearly see an occasional tiny yellow dot appearing so I manually set it to 460MHz and did not notice any. Still 920MHz (1840Mhz) is pretty nice overclock if this is the case.

Need to get the parts to do a clean job on overvolting my 7900GT and hope I can get the core to 700MHz. I'll tinker around with the memory some but not expecting to get much more out of it.

Good to know my KO has 1.4ns mem.

I got mine from an RMA, had a CO and it died after two days so the price for the card dropped so I got slightly upgraded.

Ok did some 3DMark05 runs:

Stock 520/1540: 9123
Stock 540/1840: 9678
1.3V / 10k ohm mem pot 618/1940: 10742
1.4V / 10k ohm mem pot 645/1940: 10999 (was expecting a higher score, will retest)
1.5V and higher, haven't tested due to stock cooling not providing enough cooling.

My memory is overclocking incredibly well. I can set it to 2000MHz with minor artifacts. When I get some better cooling on this puppy going to see what I can crank it up to. But at the moment my card is performing like a 7900GTX (sans an additional 256MB RAM) so I am pretty happy.
