78 vs 79 series... 512mb vs 256mb SLI... Questions...

Hey guys I have a few quick questions.

What is the difference between:

1) 7800gtx and 7900gt

2) 7800gtx 512mb and 7900gtx

(Is it just the clocks)???


Also, Which would you prefer and why:

7800gtx 256mb in SLi or just one 7800gtx 512mb...

7900's are just a core shrink from 7800's, so the 7900's run cooler, use less power and clock much higher.

umm another option since the 7900gt is faster then a 7800gtx now the 7800gtx-512mb i dunno if its faster then that one. For the money i would take the 7900gt runs cooler then any 7800gt/gtx and ocs higher.

personally if its between the 2 i would take the single 512mb then get another later. i cant really justify going sli when fps in games doesnt go up that much.

I honestly don't see why the 7800GTX is even still in the market. It's basically the same price as the 7900GTX and has the same 512MB memory, but the core is only 550MHz while the 7900GTX is 650MHz. . . .

Perhaps the only thing that is has going for it is the memory at 1700MHz as opposed to 1600MHz on the 7900GTX. . . . But that difference in memory speed won't make up for the large difference in the core speed which is the major factor.

Honestly I wouldn't buy either, I'd get a 7900GT and clock it up to 7800GTX 512mb or higher.

Its just that with the 7900gt, the price of a used 7800gtx has dropped dramatically making it the more attractive of the two.
