Another victim of Xbox360...

going dead

Just as I was getting familiar with GRAW and started grouping up with my old clan mates, out of nowhere my Xbox360 decides to die

After this I did some research on net and seems that there are tons and tons of people that have fallen victim to flashing red lights (in which case you didn't know; this is the circle around the power button which normally lights up green once you turn it on and if you get a flashing red lights it means that your console is DOA). I also read some story of a guy that had four consoles that have gone dead just one after another and then he decided to take M$ to court and they somehow shipped him a new unit within 24hr's

Is M$ hidding something here?

The news that they will start production of 65nm die procs on 360's makes me even more suspicious and their original plans to water cool the system. Add all the things up and number of people that have had their system go dead, I think you get a pretty clear picture

Anyways I call them and luckily I only had 3 days left on my warranty so they will repair my unit.

Wow. Almost everyone here who has a 360 seems to have it die on them...
Hopefully I'm not next

EDIT: They never said they truely watercooled it. The heatpipes in the heatsink have a special liquid in them which allows more heat to be transferred. Plus, a few months after the 65nm comes out, I'm definately trading my 360 in for a new one. But only if the reports are good. Yay EBGames warranty.

I haven't touched my PS2 since Xbox came out cause of Live, but lately I have hard time playing on my PC cause there is nothing to play anymore. Only games that really pulled in on PC are FarCry (reason why I build the PC ) and BF2. F.E.A.R. and HL2 were decent, but nothing extraordinary. Can't wait for Crysis as that is the only game I see myself playing on PC down the road.

I'm just holding my fingers crossed till this Tue that Sony shows of PS3 on stands and that they deliver on what they showed of last year which totally bl owned my mind.

I'm starting to suspect that my DVD drive went DOA as I never had any problems previously. When I put the game or DVD in you usually hear it as it starts speeding up faster and the game boots up, but mine just stalls and then the red lights start flashing.

Man, that sucks, but its very nice that you are getting a new one. I think the 90 day warrenty is BS. With electronics it really needs to be atleast a year because porblems will usually show up sooner than later. e.g. in the first 6 months.

ps I wouldn't believe everything you hear on the net. When something goes wrong people run to forums to look for solutions, so you see a lot of problems and people start passing stories along through many, many times and they turn into "I heard this guy had 3 houses burnt down by Xboxes" remeber those "the Xbox burns house down" stories, lol. You know how it goes. How many people have had their 360 die, show of hands (your 360, not your brothers or someone you know, or someone who knows someone who's died. We have a decent amount of 360 adopters here and if theres more then 3 or so I'd be suprised.

I agree, those short warrantees on consoles are BS. Especially since these companies are so set on hitting their marketing release date that they make their customers suffer by releasing hardware that is not ready. I got one of the first PS2s that came out, it had a crappy 90 day warranty and it died after having it for 5 months. After my PS2, the 360 problems people are having, and seeing my brother-in-law needing to have his original Xbox sent in for warranty service twice, I decided I will never be getting a first revision of a console again.

Maybe it's just because I didn't hear about these horror stories in years past, but I think consoles used to be built with higher quality control standards. I never had problems with my NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, PS one, N64. I also knew many people who had these consoles as well and I don't remember them having problems either.

Send you PS2 my way
I'll take good care of it and give it a warm home

If you buy something and it doesn't have at least a year warrenty you should know something is wrong there...
A company thats sure the product is good will issue a good warrenty and by giving only 90 days M$ are basically saying "Listen, we had to cut a few corners so...."

QFT! Remember when the most in depth repair job you ever had to do with your console (NES, SNES, Genesis) was to blow into the cartrige and blow into the system to get some of the dust out?

The good ol days...

Mine never did anything like that. When I got the red lights, the machine started as normal, I just wouldn't have any sound or picture. I would turn it off and back on, and it worked fine.

And J. Allard said that PS3's cooling system will suck in fair words against 360's that's 1 big under statement. As in "Talking out of my ass" Sony will no doubt use this info to provide a nice quite but efficient cooling solution.

Providing they can get it working I've read on Inquirer.net that there having problems with backwards compatibility with some PS2 games. And the CELL CPU isn't showing what it's capable of.
