I have 805 running on quiet water (quiet = not good for temps) clocked 3.8ghz with 1.34v. Though mine won't go over 4ghz barrier that easily.

I abused my 805 on air for a while with temps in the 65C range at load, but now I have it on pretty good water. Stable 3.8 on a P5P800 SE at 1.3625 Vcore in BIOS. It droops to 1.26 or so on load though. Temps range to 45-50C on load.

^^^4.5 wow what were all the specs and temps for that?

Since the processor is that cheap, I might pick one up just to play around with it

3.2 on mine as of now. Not really wanting to push up further just yet as my case has poor air flow and it's summer to boot.

What were the best three boards for these 805's. And the best three economical boards? I didn't pay much attention, since I vowed never to touch a pressy like cpu again. I think I know someone who might want an 805 set up.

Don't these use up a LOT of power when OCed? I keep hearing how power hungry they are... after the amount of heat it produces, and the costs of electricity to power the chip, AND to cool your room in the summer, it may not be worth it.

I'd take this chip in the winter just b/c the heat will make up for the electricity used... but using this in the summer, you're gonna heat up your room so much, use so much electricity, and then even more electricity b/c you'll have to cool down your room.

I think the 930 is worth the $80 more, especially since the weather is getting warmer.

Although, with a mild OC, this is def worth the $$ for a dc chip.

At 4.0 on water my idle temp is 35C and on load it NEVER goes above 45C no matter what I use.

But doesn't it use like 200W at 4.0ghz? That sounds a lot to me...

Any way to measure?

I think I would jump on one of these for just about anything other than folding. My mini farm is already subsidizing the local electric company and this would not help the situation. I need more powerful processors but not more power. Sure does look like a very promising processor for a single computer though.

Read the article? The fact that Prescott P4s and especially their dual-core cousins (Pentium D 8xx) draw tremendous power is hardly news. There really isn't anything in the THG article that users of this board should not already be aware of. All it does is give one more OC data point on a first-rate platform. We already know the properties of the 8xx chips, and (hopefully) we all are aware of the implications of FSB X multiplier = cpu clock. As much THG bashing as I've seen on this board over the years, I simply cannot understand why this statement of the (excruciatingly) obvious is garnering so much attention.

Are you referring to the power consumption statement?

So I JUST purchased (I'm talking 1 week ago) a 3200+ s939 Athlon64, along w/ a 939 mobo, and I have used it for a few hours, and I liked how it runs. Nice and cool, everything is smooth, though with several programs multitasking, it hiccups every now and then, nothing to write home about.

The AMD cpu cost me $155 (which i considered to be a deal), and the mobo was about $100.
My question is, would it be worth it for me (I use my PC primarly for gaming, also some video encoding here and there, nothing crazy) to RMA the AMD cpu/mobo and pick this up along w/ a s775 mobo, and just OC it?
Would i see great performance gains?
I see that i'd have to swap my pc3200 ddr ram for some ddr2 ram, but i have 4x1gb sticks i could sell and probably pick up at least 2x1gb sticks of DDR2 for the money i'd receive.
Thoughts on this decision?
