HD Spins all the time?

Just got a new WD SATA 250Gb drive from my friends computer and it sounds like it's spinning at 100% all the time.(power on to power off) Does that seem normal?

Do you just hear the motor? Or is it reading/writing 100% of the time?

read some reviews on what other poeple that have it n see how loud it is or them
