XFX 7900GT (PV-T71G-UCF7) $249 AMIR @ MWAVE

Mwave has the XFX 7900GT (PV-T71G-UCF7) for $279.00 w/$30 XFX MIR =$249.00 . (NOTE :Rebate good till 5/31/06)

Memory Clock
-1.37 GHz
Clock rate
-470 MHz

Maybe not as good a deal as some of the higher oc'ed cards , but still a nice deal non-the-less . XFX rebates seem to have been very reliable from my experiance .

I don't think it's fair to compare to newegg's same model.

Better to compare to their newegg's cheapest 7900gt, which is only $10 more and a far better OC:

Not only that, but newegg's shipping is also a few bux cheaper...

470/1370 at mwave or 500/1500 at newegg... ~$7 difference

I'd say it's a close match... I'd basically break it down to which brand I'd rather go with, and I honestly could never determine if I liked XFX or eVGA better. They're both AWESOME!

Not to mention that when you have to RMA it and you probably will have to RMA it, you know for a fact Newegg is going to take care of you.

I think the issues with the 7900GT cards are blown out of proportion. My card has worked perfectly at stock settings and with a moderate overclock. The only time I ran into problems was when I pushed my OC too far (550/800 up from stock 450/660). Once I lowered the clocks it was fine again. The "issues" with the 7900GT affect card all manufacturers, and just to give you an idea of the RMA rate, here is a quote from an EVGA customer service rep taken from the EVGA forums:

Below are some key facts regarding this issue that we want to share with everyone:

EVGA’s 7900GT Series total RMA rate is from 0.04% to 1.9% per different SKU’s (which includes cards that had no problems found)

19% of the users who requested a 2nd time RMA out of the all RMA still experienced either the same issue or new issues unrelated to the VGA card itself.

EVGA will continue to perform better product quality control ensuring a reliable and stable product. At the same time we are also improving our technical support skills marking sure to provide a better customer service experience with EVGA’s product.

EVGA has observed some users pushing the card to an unreachable amazing clock speeds and causing the GPU and/or memory to fail permanently and this has gotten our attention.

All over-clocking exceeding our product preset clock/memory speeds out of the box is NOT recommended. Some users may be able to over-clock with higher speeds, but this may lead to hidden issues like artifacting or random lock ups. That is why we have created several different clocked products for 7900 series.
Based on this information, the situation isn't nearly as bad as some people make it out to be.

I don't know, I normally have really good luck with video cards and computer parts in general and I rarely have anything negative to say about a product. The 7900GT is one of my rare exceptions. I tried 2 cards, neither card was overclocked beyond what the manufacturer set and both failed within 3 days with severe artifacting. I water cooled the first card and never removed the cooler on the second but both still failed in a system that powered an X1900XTX just fine.
